Valentine’s Day finally came around and the boy waited for the girl at her locker like he always did. She came to her locker and just stood there staring at the boy. The boy stared back, wondering if he had done something wrong. Finally the girl walked away from him and into the crowd. He watched her disappear into the blurring faces, still not sure what he had done wrong. Then it hit him. He hadn’t gotten the girl anything for Valentine’s Day. The girl didn’t talk to him that whole day in school. He walked to the store after his bus let him off at his stop and bought twelve roses; eleven real and one fake. He tied a note to the bouquet and placed it under the girl’s window. The girl came home from school and saw the roses under her window. She picked them up and breathed in their glorious fragrance. Then she untied the note and flipped it open. It said: “Sorry for not getting this to you at school, but I want you to know that I will love until the last rose in this bouquet dies…. Happy Valentine’s Day”
