Chapter 3 I sat there watching the blanket move and then noticed it had made its way up till it looked like there was some one under it. It stopped moving up and a dim light came on under the blanket. I was so scared I couldn’t move, I just watched. I saw hands move under the blanket. Hands with a pony in them. I suddenly herd singing. It was a sad sounding song. Then I herd talking. Mumbling. Then I noticed it was who ever was under the blanket. She was talking to herself. Then she disappeared. The blanket slowly fell. Then I saw my closet door open slightly and the girl figure with dark eyes stepped out. I was to scared to even scream. She didn’t look at me but looked out the window. She took two steps to the window then looked out it. She sat on the sill. She looked sad and lonely. Then my door swung open. I couldn’t believe it though. The door didn’t even actually open. It was still closed even though there was another door open. I looked over to my closet door remembering she didn’t close it. It was closed! I didn’t get it. Was this real? Then a tall man in black stepped into the room. She was already looking at him. He walked over to her and slapped her. She dropped to the floor. She didn’t move. He looked down at her and then mumbled something to her. After he was done she said something. It was loud enough for me to here. “He would Never!” She burst out in tears. He looked at her then kicked her down. She sat on the floor as he went out the door. She was still crying. She finally got up slowly. I expected her to look at me and find I had seen the whole thing, but she didn’t. She looked out the window. I felt so bad for her I wanted to get out of bed and comfort her. But instead I put my head under the covers to think it over. I pulled the covers down to see her again but one thing was wrong, she had disappeared. I looked around but she was gone. Gone, out of thin air, disappeared. I was confused and it was making me rather angry. Finally I gave up thinking about it and closed my eyes to sleep.
I slowly galloped down the stairs to eat breakfast. I wasn’t very happy but I sure did want some breakfast. I saw Max already at the table eating some cereal. Mom was humming a happy tune to her self as she baked some eggs. The warmth of the kitchen was welcoming. I sat down in front of Max and watched him shove flakes into his mouth. I suddenly remembered what I had seen last night and was going to bring it up, but then I knew they would think I was crazy so I decided to say it was a dream and see what they would think of it. “I had the strangest dream last night.” “Oh hi honey.” Mom giggled. She was extremely happy this morning. “I didn’t see or here you come in.” “Yeah you were pretty silent.” I looked into Max's eyes, which were the same exact ones I had seen last night. They were so much the same that I wondered if he had slept at all. “Did you sleep well last night?” “I sure did honey. I love that bed.” I looked at mom as she told me this. She obviously didn’t notice I was talking to Max. I looked at Max and then he caught on that I was talking to him. “Yeah, great why?” “You just look the same as last night.” “Oh really. You pay attention to me that much, that you notice how I look the same in the night as in the morning?” I looked at him as he talked to me so rudely. I wanted to take the bowl in front of him and shove every flake there was in it, into his mouth. “I was just asking.” “Okay.” “What’s your problem? Last night you were nice to me, this morning your mean and acting like I’ve done something to you.” “No I’m not.” “Yes you are!” “Be Quiet! I can’t take that. Now eat you’re eggs Kim, and you be nice Max.” I looked at mom give me my eggs then looked back at Max. He was still looking at mom. When she finally left to her room I looked at Max again. “Where did that come from? She was in such a good mood.” It surprised me that he was talking to me, but instead of being mean back to him, I played along and we talked about a few things then I remembered that I was going to tell him about last night in a dream. “Hey, I had the craziest dream last night.” “Oh really? About what?” “Well, I was in the bed and there was a blanket on the floor and it rose up and girl appeared under it.” “Uh huh, that could mean something.” I looked at him. He said he was like that person in the bible who could tell you what your dreams meant. I looked back at my food and went on. “Any way, so she disappears just like that. And then an older girl came out of the closet. She looked out the window and then some man in black comes in and starts beating her. He was talking to her but I couldn’t make out what. Finally she says, 'He would never.' So what do you think?” He looked at me with hard eyes then looked back at his bowl. “I don’t know. Did the girl look like you?” “I sure hope not. She had long black hair…” “Indian or Chinese?” I looked at him and then knew what he was saying. “No, she was probably American. She had dark eyes and was about medium size.” He grumbled some thing than looked back at me with a confused face, “I don’t know what it could mean. I don’t know, maybe your going to grow black hair and… I don’t know. Truly I don’t know.” I giggled then continued eating my food. “Hey why don’t you two go out and make some friends?” “Don’t feel like it.” Max flipped the page in the magazine he was looking at. “I don’t either but I sure don’t want to look at this magazine any more. I’m going to go get my book.” I got up and started up the stairs. I was looking down but something caught my eye at the top of the stairs. It was something black run into a room up stairs. “Hey Max, would you come with me?” “Sorry good part in the book.” I looked at him then turned to go up the stairs unwilling to wait for him. It was probably just an elusion any way. When I reached the top of the stairs I felt a sudden strike of fear run down my back. I continued down the hall to my bedroom. I stopped as I remembered I had not seen what was in the extra room I walked over to the door and opened it. Inside were a light green bed, a dresser and light green curtains. I stared around the room and asked my self how did this get here? Was it an extra bedroom? I looked around one last time then left the room. I cautiously entered my room. Nothing there. Thank God! I went over to where my book was and then noticed that someone was yelling out side my window. I walked over and saw a boy my age with another boy younger than me. They were playing with a football. Just tossing it back and forth. Suddenly they both turned and ran inside. I turned back to find my book but they came back out with a soccer ball. I couldn’t help but watch. I watched them kick it back and forth. I wondered if I would ever be able to talk to them? I was horrible with trying to talk to people I didn’t know. I just flat out couldn’t do it. I was lost in thought until I noticed they noticed I was there standing in the window. They looked at me then carried on with their game I stepped back then saw in the corner of my eye some thing on my bed. I turned in shock and saw exactly what I didn’t want to.
