Here It Comes
Part 4
Lindsey pushed the door lightly open. A small line of light filtered through the crack. She stepped in taking in the warmth and darkness of her seceret room. Once her eyes had adjusted to the dark, she could see nothing had been disturbed and sadly, Matt had not moved. She looked around for something to do, while she waited for Matt to wake up. Suddenly, the telephone rang. Hesitantly she picked it up,"He-hello?" "Oh hello Lindsey!" Said a feminin voice on the line," How are you? This is Matt's mom." Uh-oh, she thought, this is not good! "I'm fine thank you, how are you?" She replied. " Very well, thanks. I was wondering if you could do me a favour. Me and my husband are going out for four days, and we were wondering if Matt could stay at your house untill we get back. Is that okay with him too?" "It's fine with me let me go ask him." She cupped her hand over the reciver and waited a few moments before replying, "Ya. He said that's fine!" "Thank you very very much! Okay, bye!" Lindsey hung up the phone, and leaned up against the cold concrete wall. This would give Matt plenty of time to wake up and recover, and for her to explain everything...
~*~*~
Later that evening Lindsey was still in her little hide out with Matt. She had told her dad she staying at a friends house for a few nights. He hated that idea, and smacked her harshly across the face with his book. After compramising that she would do the dishes for the week if she could go, she left for "her friends house". She had a cold pack pressed up against her face, to help the swelling, she couldn't help but remeber the time Matt found out.
Lindsey was 11 years old, and she was up in her room playing. Matt had crawled through the window to see her. Him and Lindsey's father did not get along very well, so he hardly came over. Lindsey father came into her room to find them laughing histerically on the floor. "WHAT are you doing?!" He yelled. Lindsey and Matt instantly stopped laughing and sat up very strait, as if they knew what was coming. Harshly he pick up Matt by the collar of his stripped green shirt. Lindsey began to cry as her father yelled at him and dropped him outside. Her turned to Lindsey and smacked her very hard. A bruise showed up almost imediately. He picked her up and she screamed in horror as he threw he at the wall. She lay crumpled in the floor as he kicked her several times. He finally stopped after throwing the dictionary at her, leaving her there on the floor.
Matt stood in disbelief. He had seen the whole thing through the front room window. He watched Linsdey slowly sit and crawl to the door. She knew he would be back for more. Once she made it outside Matt ran to her aid. The ran down the street and into the forest at the park. Only when the were deeply inside the forest, did they stop running. Lindsey started to stagger, but Matt caught her as she fell. He sat in the forest holding her tightly in his arms as she cried. He ran his fingers through he long dirty-blonde hair, as she moved closer to him.
"Please...please don't...tell... anyone. I-I, don't want... to go...to an...orphanage..." She said through he gasps and tears. "I won't," he said quietly," don't worry I won't every tell anyone. I will always be here for you." She noded slowly as he rocked her gently to sleep. "But since I can't tell anyone," He said, even though he knewshe couldn't hear him,"I now make it my duty to always be there and protect you."
