'Til the last one dies

He gave her a dozen roses
11 real, 1 fake
He handed her a note
It read:
I will love you 'til the last one dies

She smiled and kissed his lips
She put the flowers in a vase
And set them on display
The first one died
Followed by another

Soon it was down to the last two
The final rose wilted away
Leaving only a silk rose behind
Then there was the fight
He yelled at her and she yelled back

She left the house
Slamming the door behind het
No looking back
She returned to the smell of smoke
And a house up in flames

She ran into the burning house
She pulled him out to safety
In his hand, he held a rose
A rose made of silk
Burning on the edges

As the silk rose burned
The light left his eyes
The heart she loved to listen to
Ceased to beat any longer
Her body shook with sobs

The sky wept as well
Sheets of heavy rain fell down
She picked up the charred silk rose
She held it to her heart and said:
"I will love you, 'til the last one dies."
