"Emily, I'm hungry," whined Nala as she clung to my arm. I sighed and shook my head. The woman was about a thousand years old but she acted as if she were merely five.
As she stared out the window, she gave a slight purring sound.
"How about that young couple?" Nala cooed and pointed to a pair of teenagers necking under a streetlamp.
"Hm... Which one do you want?" I asked, smirking lightly. I had only been a vampire for about a year, but I had grown so acustomed to it, it felt almost natural at times.
"Well, I'm a bit too tired to deal with someone actually trying to fight me seriously, so... The girl."
I nodded.
"Just as well. I don't want to bother with the ear piercing screams..."
Nala opened the window, and we both hurled ourselves out gracefully, to land right in front of the couple, who paid us no mind due to our silent landing.
"Hm... What a cute couple. Wouldn't you agree, Emily?" Nala's voice held a triumphant tone. The couple pulled away to glare at us.
"That I would. Although, Nala, I would have to say that we're much cuter," we both advanced a step towards the pair and stopped. I smiled, closed my eyes, and cocked my head to the side.
"Mhh... Now don't think that, you two. We won't shoot you... or rob you, or stab you, or anything else, so stop thinking and hoping we'll get caught... Nala? What are they?" I opened my eyes and straightened my head back. Nala gently sniffed the air.
"She's an A positive, and he's a O negative."
"Mmm."
"What, do you two think you're vampires or something? You're crazy!" The male- Derek, I heard from the girl's thoughts- spat out, giving a nervous yet cocky smile. Nala and I just laughed.
"Think? No, no, no!" Nala grabbed the girl's wrist and stared into her eyes.
"How wrong you are," I finished for her, swooping up behind the male and grabbing him by the back of the neck.
"What the ********?! Let go of me you crazy b***h!" The male thrashed in my grasp, trying to break free of my inhuman grasp. I sighed and brought my free hand up and pressed against his temple, causing him to faint.
Nala walked backwards, smiling, and kept the girls gaze as she followed her into the approaching alley. I slung the male's arm over my shoulders and carried him forward.
In the darkened alley, Derek's eyes snapped open.
"Awake, I see. That didn't last too long. Now, hold still," I grabbed a handful of his shaggy blond hair and yanked his head to the side.
"Lemme go! s**t! Stop!" As he tried to hit me, I grabbed his wrists and pulled them forward, creating a sickly popping sound to emerge from his arm sockets.
"DEREK!"
I whipped around and stared at the struggling girl.
"Hm. Haven't had a person break that hypnotic spell in a long time," mumbled Nala, slightly smiling as she grasped the girls neck and leaned in.
I turned towards the male, who was hunched over crying, arms hanging limp by his sides. From behind me, the girl screamed, and there were slight sounds of struggle, then, nothing.
"Karen!" Derek yelled as he jerked his head up and scanned the darkness for his girlfriend.
"Calm down. She's gone now, alright? Now, settle down, and this will all be over with soon," I pulled his head to the side once more.
"God, help," he whimpered. I managed to force out a laugh.
"No god here. Just a hungry vampire," I whispered in his ear, before sinking my fangs into his fleshy neck.
Closing my eyes, I sucked out the warm, salty liquid. Derek jerked beneath my grasp, then went limp. I pulled back and wiped the exess blood from my face as he fell to the ground.
"Emily! Are you finished?" Nala's silky voice cut through the silence.
"Yeah," I stepped back to make room for her. With a flick of her wrist, Derek disappeared into a pile of ash.
"Back to the apartment?" she asked in a satisfied tone, smiling at me. I licked a stray drop of blood from her cheek.
"Yes," I answered as we entwined our fingers together and headed back.
