Otherwise, as far as clothing goes? Ko is a traditional Japanese girl. She’s either seen bumming around in her martial arts gear, a simple yukata (usually purple or pale blue), or her high school uniform. The most ‘normal’ clothing she wears is modern athletic gear, or jeans, a knit top, and sneakers, although it’s pretty rare. The nicest articles of clothing in Ko’s closet other than her festival Kimonos are a prom dress from the previous year that she, uh, never wore, and a white cotton sun dress that has also never been touched.
.......................................................
» more than useless - - - { MARTIAL ARTS} Despite having no magical abilities like the others, Ko, strong and agile, is nothing less than an expert in physical combat. She is well-trained with several styles of Japanese, Chinese, and Korean Martial Arts, and is familiar with traditional weaponry.
» this rut I fell into by mistake - - - { ANIMAL TRANSFORMATION} Unfortunately, laughing or crying ends up badly…In other words, what was once a pretty girl with a hot head usually turns into a temperamental tiger.
» break me apart - - -
{ AGGRESSIVE & JUSTIFIED } Okay, so, it’s quite a bad habit that Ko tends to hit someone upside the head when something goes wrong, or, in most instances, when the Rebel teases her twin brother or the Slacker fails to fulfill his responsibilities. However, despite her normal hot-headedness, she doesn’t just randomly decide to punch someone in the face, rather, when justice needs to be served, her underlying sense of right and wrong is…physically overwhelming. Karma tends to play in her decisions whether or not to physically punish someone (ie: punching the Rebel for pushing Kade-nii down the stairs), but there are times where her temperament can get in the way of seeing situations rationally.
{ BOSSY & ‘IN CHARGE’} Ko pretends to act older than seventeen, feeling protective of her brother and everyone who needs a ‘bodyguard’. At the Schnitzel, she tries to act like the mother figure, giving orders here an there, organizing chores, and keeping everyone in check with threats of a bloody nose or a black eye. In other words, she thinks she’s mature, and that because she is the strongest, physically, that she has the right to pose as the head-of-house.
{ OVER-CONFIDENT & BRASH } Nothing can stop her from doing what she thinks is right. Not even Godzilla, if such a thing existed…Which probably could with the force of the Talismans. In other words, if an army decided to attack the ten teenagers, Ko wouldn’t hesitate to try and take on the entire group on her own. She’s so confident in the quality of her abilities, of her accelerated speed and strength that she fails to realize that…well, even if she dodged one bullet to the head, with an entire army in their front yard, there’s little chance she can avoid so much metal all at once. In other words, her confidence will eventually kill her, even with a healer in the house.
{ ACTIVE & FIDGETY} Ko has issues sitting still. She has to be doing something, like practicing her fighting techniques in the yard, hiking in the woods, fixing things, or even running until she finally ran out of breath and had to slow to a walk. In other words, unless she’s sleeping (and even then she fidgets and squirms), there has to be something to keep her busy. Kaede had often suggested reading a book, but it’s nearly impossible for her to sit still long enough to even finish her homework. And maybe this is why she gets on the Slacker’s case so much…She can’t stand being lazy herself, so she won’t tolerate it from anyone else.
{ OPINIONATED & LOUD } It’s not always a bad thing. Really. Unless she ends up laughing or crying and is officially on all fours, growling and covered in white fur. Either way, Ko has no issue expressing exactly how she feels…At the top of her voice if necessary. The best of it is that she’s honest, unafraid to be blunt in regard to someone else’s opinion, and while she seems like a simple, high-maintenance, hot-headed teenager who’s constantly trying to be in control, Ko also values what others think, however stubbornly she has to listen.
{ DISCIPLINED & TRADITIONAL} She’s a tomboy. She’s a girl. She kicks butt. With intense Martial Arts training and extreme discipline Ko has developed gracefulness not only in her dance-like movements but verbally as well. Under all the temperament, the aggression, and the ‘authority’, even if she’s yelling, with all due respect she is actually quite eloquent. Possibly it comes from the traditions of even the most ancient styles of fighting, but quite simply if she wants to be respected as a fighter, or as any sort of athlete, the way to earn it is by not sounding like a completely arrogant idiot.
» all just a memory - - -
Twins. Twins. How often were families completed so quickly? The Shintas had always wanted both a son and a daughter, and as infrequent as multiples in a single pregnancy were, fraternal twins, one of each gender, were even less common. So it was an especially happy, although rainy April 6th when the Shinta family made room for two more strong fighters...That was half the case.
Shinta Koharu was born first, seven minutes before her brother, healthy, screaming at the top of her lungs as all babies do the instant they are removed from the comforting closure of the womb. Knowing one of them would be a protector of the Quintet’s traditions, the happy parents wondered which of the two newborns would be subject to the extremely recessive magical gene. Shinta Kaede, her twin brother, was born seven minutes later, whimpering feebly as he was removed, bathed, and examined. It wasn’t uncommon in the case of multiples that one was a bit healthier than the other, but when their second child was finally in their arms, the couple couldn’t have been happier.
Koharu continued to grow to be as loud and boisterous as she was strong and athletic, with more energy than even her father could keep up with. By age two she had already committed to becoming a great fighter, and her family was anxious to see more. Maybe it was because out of all of them, physically, she was the most unique. Her white hair and violet eyes, they found, were an extremely rare recessive feature that hadn’t shown in any generation of the Shinta family since Tetsuo’s great-grandfather. They thought, maybe, this was the sign of the black sheep, the rare family member who showed magical prowess. Well, she was always special to them. Always. She was the pride and joy of the family practice, a prodigy in the many styles of fighting. But Kaede was even more special than she was. He was the black sheep, despite her recessive genetics. She was an ordinary Shinta. Kaede was special. He was magical, and at first, when they had all discovered what he could do, Koharu, for the first time ever, had become terrified, if not extremely jealous of her brother. She tried not to fathom the extent of his abilities, or the way his ‘shadow puppets’, as she liked to call them, twisted and tangled at his will. It was scary, that he so many a time would lock himself in his pitch black room and huddle in a corner somewhere. But the fear wore off quickly enough, and Koharu became more protective of her brother than ever. She was anxious as to what others might do if they witnessed his crazy powers, wondered if he even needed her as his personal body guard any more. Physically though, he was still frail and rather weak, so she was still at his side every waking moment. However, Kaede seemed to grow up a lot faster than she had realized—This Umbrakinesis and Summoning was good for him, she supposed. He was a lot more, well, mature now, and despite being older than him by a whole seven minutes, Koharu couldn’t resist calling her twin Kade-nii. It just stuck.
And, to say the least, they did enjoy one another’s company more often than twins normally would. Kaede’s fragile, reserved demeanor, versus her noisy, annoyingly aggressive straight-forwardness--it was a good balance, although kids at school seemed to antagonize her brother more about his ‘body guard’. Well, they couldn’t be a perfect set of siblings. Usually it was the brother who was protected the sister, not the other way around. Ko was glad that Kade-nii didn’t mind. He seemed to prefer it that way. Less explanations when the two came home from class, well, for him, anyway. When challenging a few people at once it was a bit hard for Koharu to walk away completely unscathed, let alone without talking her way out of detention and suspension.
The explanations were even more awkward during the Quintet reunion. Especially when Kaede walked into the room with Ko holding the crushed remains of the Zodiac Talismans. Actually, there really was no explanation other than that the Optimistic stupidly flailed her arms in Koharu’s way while she was punishing the Obedient and the Hottie for fighting so stupidly. Well, yea, the Obedient’s house did look a little bit like a crypt—the rooms were a bit dark, and there were cauldrons, potions, and crystal balls everywhere, but the twin’s parents made it very clear that the Moriyama family was a little bit different from the rest of the Quintet families, so she and Kaede politely held their tongues, waiting until they could leave the reunion and everyone else for another decade. Well, thanks to the Optimist, that just wasn’t the case. There Koharu sat, her mouth clenched tight as she hissed and spit at the girl for behaving so stupidly. The spirits would have never escaped had she not gotten in the way and altered her aim at the quarreling teens. Unfortunately, Kaede had no other suggestions other than honesty when she looked at him pleadingly, searching for a solution to their problem. So there was nothing left to do but hope that the Optimist’s suggestion would go over well and that their her mistake would be overlooked.
For her complete lack of responsibility, Koharu and the other four teenagers involved in the incident were being sent to Houko, where the elders discovered the spirits seemed to be residing. As punishment, and abiding by the Quintet traditions, she and the other teenagers were to search for the spirits there and imprison them again. They were all was allowed to chose one person to serve as their ‘guardian’, and fearing for his life without her, Koharu immediately chose her beloved Kade-nii, despite that he was supposed to protect her, not the other way around.
Well, it was going to be hell living with eight other people, but, hey, nothing was wrong with a little adventure…Unfortunately, despite her self-proclaimed leadership role in the household, despite that she’s not the oddball of her family, Koharu secretly feels that she is the black sheep out of all ten teenagers. She is the only one with no magical abilities, despite being cursed with animal transformations. Kaede has attempted to convince her that she’s simply special. She is, after all, physically stronger than everyone in the house. But then again that just makes her the average Shinta, at least that’s how she began to feel in the eyes of everyone else other than her twin. And still, while she took pride in how much time and training it took to become as skilled as she was, how would she be of any help to the rest of the group when all she could do was fight?
» this is how I roll - - - { OBSESSIVE-COMPULSIVE DICTATOR} Wondering who decided to make a chore list according to each member of the house? Yea...That was Koharu. Having a nice, clean household and dojo back home compared to…well, this…And a respectful upbringing, well, there’s no reason the teenagers’ house couldn’t be nice and clean too. It just took some elbow grease…right? Right. At one point she tried to enforce a rule that anyone who didn’t carry out their listed duties would sleep outdoors, but Kaede unfortunately didn’t have her back on that one. But, secretly feeling stupid and regretful for the incident that got them all here, Ko personally tried her best not to fight inside the house. That was…placed on the rule list…by everyone else, including her parents. But out of everyone, she enforces the rules and the chore list. There’s no reason the Schnitzel can’t be livable. However, when it comes to manual labor, like, replacing the shingles on the roof or large repair projects, she refuses to let anyone pursue them but her.
Out of everyone in the household, other than her brother, when it comes down to it, Koharu has the most respect for the Energetic, because, regardless of her constant and rather annoying swing of bubbly energy, she is most like herself in the same way that neither of them can stand to live in a pig-pen. Ko can always count on her to get her own chores done, if not those of several of the other residents. Initially she knows she can count on the Energetic to get things done when she asks her to do them--being the girl is more of a fidget-monster than herself--and that she won't get a lot of flack for her requests for a consistently clean home.

» housing all this doubt - - - {LOSING KAEDE} Koharu's twin is the only person that can keep her straight, and to say the least, he's one half of a whole. They have been together their entire lives, nearly joined at the hip. They aren't merely siblings--they are best friends, and she wouldn't know what to do if she had lost her brother to an illness, an accident. It would be as though part of her was missing, and she would never be whole again. They were a set, and always would be a set.
{DARKNESS} Knowing what her twin is capable of, it shouldn't be surprising that, although she is used to his unique abilities, that Ko is truly frightened of the dark where shadows thrive. Her eyes don't adjust nearly as quickly as Kaede's, and the silence that comes with darkness makes it even more frightening.
{SMALL, CONFINED SPACES} Being an absolute fidget-monster, being in small spaces for an extended period of time drives Koharu absolutely nuts. With no room to move, no room to breathe, walls and crowded areas tend to give her the feeling that the entire world is going to collapse on top of her head and suffocate her slowly. Koharu can't even sit in her room for an extended period of time without having a moderate panic attack. Which is why, unless she's sleeping or naked, her bedroom doors are always, ALWAYS open, no matter how much her roommate tries to fight with her about it.
{RENDERED USELESS} Not having any magical abilities like the others frightens her more than anything, not only because they had something she didn’t, but because it could possibly be used against her, or she would simply have no purpose at all. What if fighting wasn’t enough to protect Kaede? What if, after all of her hard work, she wasn’t strong enough, at all? Or what if the others simply didn’t need her because they were so god damned gifted? Having no purpose, or being the odd one out really scares the s**t out of Koharu, although she attempts to hide it through brash decisions and over-confidence in herself.
