Reflections on the evil known as politics. |

I know I said in my recently updated profile that I despise politics. IknowIknowIknow, and it's still true. But I need to go on a tirade, and I need to do it at a time when there is nobody to contradict my opinions. >>;;
SLIGHT DISCLAIMER: I'm not a democrat, and I'm not a republican. I'm not even old enough to vote yet, so I don't actually support any political party. HOWEVER, I am rather conservative in multiple ways, such as not supporting abortion or violations of the Constitution. Deal with it. D:
We'll start out with yesterday. After Eli got locked in the closet in Web Page Design. Well, after he got out.
I was sitting in WPD, doing my work and listening to the conversation going on between the guys sitting behind me and the teacher, Mr. P. And they were discussing politics, and who should become the next president. I don't remember exactly what was said, but I remember that they were utterly denouncing a couple of candidates for stupid reasons, and supporting others for even more stupid reasons.
Now, don't get me wrong, I like the people in WPD; most of them are funny and nice enough. But I noticed that some of my friends, most of whom will be voting in the 2008 election, are immensely, unbearably close-minded about politics, religion, education, what have you.
And so I find that I need to rant about it.
And today, as we were standing outside after school, a couple of my friends were discussing the fact that President Bush needs/deserves to be made fun of, and that our country needs/deserves to be made fun of.
I love my friends, really I do. But I wonder what the fate of our country will be.
Let me explain that. From what I could tell, at least one of my friends holds the philosophy that Bush is a bit like one of those rich, snobby kids. You need to make fun of them to bring their egos back down to an acceptable level. This is not the case with our president or our country.
How do I explain my point of view on this? Let's see...the USA is a major world power, no matter how much some other countries hate it. President Bush is a world leader, in a rather diluted sort of way. This means that both of these carry a lot of influence, and are always watched by the residents of the US and by people around the world. As such, there there is also a responsibility of the people in this country to show at least a tiny bit of respect for the president and the country itself.
We are already made fun of the world over because our president has a Texas accent, can't pronounce 'nuclear', and is supposedly an idiot. Our country's educational program is a joke, we're a big part of the contribution to the hole in the freaking ozone layer, and crime is through the roof.
Not to mention we're fighting in a war people hate, and we're blaming Bush for it. Why? Because he led us into it. How did he do that? He lied to his officials to make them support him? No, I don't think so. According to probably nearly all the people in this country, Bush isn't smart enough to find his a** with both hands and a map. So how could he be clever enough to lie to us? Unless it's not his fault. But that simply cannot be! He's George Bush!, I hear you saying. He's the reason our country is being dragged into hell. We make fun of him, and tell other people to make fun of him, because he sucks and we hate him, and EVERYTHING IS HIS FAULT!
Oh, what about the part where YOU'RE AN IDIOT!?
WE DON'T NEED OR WANT OUR COUNTRY TO LOSE ANY MORE PRESTIGE THAN IT ALREADY HAS. Condescending bastards in other countries absolutely jump at the chance to drag our names in the mud. Some people in this country ABSOLUTELY JUMP AT THE CHANCE TO DRAG OUR NAMES IN THE MUD. Why? Because we tell them to, in almost every possible way.
WHAT THE HELL IS WRONG WITH YOU PEOPLE?! DO YOU WANT YOUR OWN COUNTRY TO BE THE BUTT OF EVERYONE'S JOKES? APPARENTLY THE ANSWER IS YES, BECAUSE PEOPLE ARE FREAKING WAITING IN LINE TO MAKE FUN OF THE UNITED STATES!
Don't get me wrong on this. I don't like where our country is going, since all of the '08 presidential candidates, from what I can tell, are lying bastards (and whores, in the case of Hilary Clinton). And I don't exactly think our economy is doing well, or our education. But to actually want to publicly denounce the country you're living in, or to ask others to do so, is absolutely idiotic!
-pant, gasp-
O_______________O;;
Now that I've finished with my rant of damnation...-cough-...Uh...-scuttles away-
