I was home alone for a few hours this evening, so I took the opportunity to gain control of the TV for once. If my little brother or sister isn't watching some god awful, stupid show, then my little brother is playing one of his video games. I swear, that television is never off. The midgets are practically addicted to it.
Anyway. Where was I before I went off on that tangent? Right, I was watching TV. So The Count of Monte Cristo was on (the remake, not the black and white one), and I was watching that with the space heater on, when all of a sudden all of the lights on the first floor of my house go out.
My first thought is, "That would have to happen right in the middle of my movie." My second thought is, "And it would have to happen before I got to finish eating my dinner." Those thoughts were followed by, "And my phone is upstairs too. Perfect." Basically, at first I was just angry. I thought my power had gone out for no stinking reason. Then I realized that the electrical appliances in the kitchen (refrigerator, radio, phone, etc.) were still on, so it was just a messed up circuit.
It was only when I grabbed a flashlight so I could see where I was going that it occurred to me: This is such a horror movie set-up.
So then I was angry and kind of wigging out in case a crazy axe murderer jumped out of my bathroom. I ended up in the corner of my kitchen with my back to the wall, calling everyone I could think of. Mom, dad, mom's boyfriend (Cliff), all of them. Wouldn't you know it, my dad was in the middle of seeing Mall Cop with my little brother (which is why I was home alone, since I'd rather light myself on fire than go see that movie), and my mom was seeing Milk with Cliff, so all three of them had their phones turned off.
Well, I didn't feel like going upstairs and sitting up there, because that would just wig me out more, so I turned on the radio in the kitchen (thank God that worked) and sat in the dark reading a book by flashlight, waiting for my phone to ring.
After about an hour of that, my dad finally called and explained to me how to fix the circuit. It was pretty self-explanatory, once I finally fixed it, but I didn't know that beforehand, otherwise I would have just done it right away. What a stupid thing to happen. And then I missed all of the rest of Count of Monte Cristo.
I feel so cheated. I spent an hour waiting to either fix the circuit or be murdered by some crazy guy in a mask, and I missed my movie. That is so typical.
Just thought you guys might like a little anecdote. My journal was looking neglected. Cheers.
