Chapter 4
Becka woke up to the sound of someone knocking on her door. Becka groaned. “come in.” she called still with closed eyes. She heard the door open and footsteps enter the room. She opened her eyes to see a tiny goblin looking at her. He had grayish brown skin with huge yellow eyes. His head looked as if it were to big for his body. He wore rage and a drinking goblet on his head. The goblit tilted to one side of his head half covering one of his big yellow eyes. He was about the same size as a teddy bear that her mother had kept for so long known as Lancelot. Becka used to sleep with Lacelot when she was a child.
Becka looked at the creature with stunned eyes as he gazed back up at her lying in the bed. He bowed and spoke. “my name is Medac my lady. I’ve come with a message.” he told her. Becka smiled slightly at how cute the tiny goblin was. “well what is it?” she asked kindly. “his royal highness wishes to have breakfast with milady.” he said a bowed slightly out of respect. For a goblin he had good manners. Becka sat up and stretched. “when does he want me there?” she asked the tiny goblin. “9 o’clock milady.” he siad. Becka looked around the room to find a clock. She finally found one above the door frame. It was 8:55. Once Becka realized what time it was she jumped up. “oh gosh. You’d think he could have given me more warning.” she muttered sharply to herself. Medac laughed. “I think his majesty enjoys seeing you in a fluster.” he told her. Becka tried to glare but the sight of the tiny goblin laughing changed her mood and she laughed with him. “alright. Go tell his majesty I shall be there as quick as I can.” she told Medac. Medac nodded and left the room closing the door behind him.
Becka hurried to the bathroom to take a bath. It had been at least three days since she had had a bath and she felt disgusting. She turned on the water and walked to the bathroom counter to brush her hair. Becka began to untangle her hair as she thought about everything that had happened the night before. She thought about the dance she did and how peaceful it felt. She thought about running through the garden. She thought about everything Jareth had told her, but mostly she thought of Jareth. How handsome he looked in the moolight that night. His mismatched eyes gleaming into her sparkling bluish purple ones that reflected the night sky.
Becka smiled slightly to herself as she continued to think of Jareth. Then Becka felt something wet under her feet. She looked down to see the entire floor covered in water. Becka looked at the bathtub and found that it was over flowing with water. Becka began to panic, then she bolted to the bathtub as fast as she could without slipping. She turned off the water and looked at the mess around her. How was she expected to clean this mess up? She looked at the towel rack and saw a few towels hanging from it. Becka took the towels and tried to mop up as much of the water as she could. Well at least things couldn’t get any worse.
Just then Becka heard a knock on her bedroom door. Becka froze. ‘To late’ she thought. “w-who is it?” she called from the bath room. Jareth had been standing outside of Becka’s room, slightly annoyed that she had kept him waiting. It was ten after nine and she had kept the goblin king waiting. “it’s Jareth.” he called back to her through the door.
Becka started to panic. What was she going to do now? “uh I-I’m kinda busy at the moment. Could you come back later?” she called with a nervouse voice. Jareth frowned. “absolutely not.” he said firmly. “you kept me waiting in the dining room, I won’t be kept waiting any longer.” he told her through the door, then he opened it and walked inside. He walked into the room. He didn’t see Becka anywhere and figured she was in the bathroom. Becka hadn’t heard him come in her bedroom so she still thought he was waiting outside her room.
Jareth heard Becka muttering to herself. She sounded stressed. Jareth walked quietly towards the bathroom door so he could hear better. Then he heard Becka cry out and heard a thud. At this Jareth didn’t wait anymore. “Becka!“ he called out with confusion and concern in his voice. He opened the door suddenly to see if she was alright. Jareth was shocked at the sight that lay before him. He saw water everywhere, the floor was one giant puddle. And in the middle of the room was a very stressed, very wet Becka sitting in the middle of it with a few soaked towels near by. Jareth was stunned at first, but then a smirk stretched across his face as he starred at her.
Jareth chuckled slightly. “well, well, well. Look what we have here?” he said mockingly. Becka quickly regained from her shock and glared up at him. Then she tried to stand but slipped and fell, she gave another small cry as she fell. Then she tried again but failed as she slipped on the wet floor. Jareth watched her several times then finally took pity of her. He walked over to her sitting on the floor after yet another attempt to stand, only to fall down again. He leaned down and picked her up in his arms. Then he walked back to the doorway and set her down on the dry ground. Becka had rapped her arms around Jareth’s neck when he picked her up off the floor. Now as he set her down her arms were still aroung his neck.
She gazed up into his mismatched eyes. His eyes were full of laughter and amusment, as he smirked down at her. Becka blushed and looked down, her arms still rapped around his neck. The tips of her hair were wet from the water. Jareth cocked his head to one side as he tried to catch a glimpse of her face. Then he flicked his wrist and the room was placed back to order. The floor was dry, fresh towels were placed on the towel racks, everything was put back to order. Becka looked at the room in amazment, her mouth slightly agape. Then she looked back at Jareth in amazment. Jareth did nothing but smirk down at her. Then he gently removed her arms from around his neck. Then he walked over to the bathtub and turned on the water. He took a bottle from a small shelf hanging on the bathtub wall. He poured some of it’s substance into the tub as it filled up with water. Then he walked back to Becka standing in the door way. He stopped right in front of her with his hands behind his back. He gave her a another smirk and looked her up and down. Her clothes were covered in wet spots.
Becka didn’t like being inspected as though she were some sort of bug under a microscope. She blushed and turned away, figiting slightly. “what are you starring at.” she told him. She didn’t really mean for it to come out as a question for she already knew the answer. Jareth only smirked at her then spoke. “nothing. Nothing at all.” he told her smugly. Now Becka was getting annoyed. She turned away. “well you can’t very well go walking around the underground looking like that now can you?” he asked still smirking. His gaze showed that he was enjoying himself. Becka gave him a quick glare then walked over to her backpack that was sitting next to her vanity. She opened it and began to dig inside of it. She began to dig frantically. Finally she dumped the entire bag out of her bed. Becka sighed heavily. Then she looked over at Jareth.
He was leaning against the doorway of the bathroom. His arms and legs crossed. He was still smirking. Becka began to wonder if his smirk was permanently attached to his face. She gave him a slight glare. After another moment of silence Jareth spoke as if reading her thoughts. “I removed those wretched things you above Landers consider to be clothing.” he told her. Becka rolled her head back and put one hand on her hip as she glared at him. Jareth only smirked again. “you know you look rather cute when your angry.” he said flirtingly. Becka tried not to let her face turn red, but she failed. Jareth smiled at her embarassment then walked over to her wardrobe. He opened it and began to look through the dresses that hung inside it. He pulled out a dress and handed it to Becka.
“where that.” he told her. Becka hated how he was walking all over her. Jareth took the few steps to fill in the space between them. He was now inches from her. “please?” he asked barely above a whisper, the smirk gone from his face. Becka looked up at him with wide eyes again. After a moments silence, Becka gently took the dress from his hand, and gave him a small smile. She leaned up close to Jareth’s face. At first he was shocked by this action. His mismatched eyes scanned her face. “Jareth,” she whispered. “hm?” he said leaning close into her face. His lips centimeters from hers expecting a kiss. “you left the water running.” she said in the same whisper. “what?” Jareth asked softly with a slight frown. Then he understood what she just said and jerked his head towards the bathroom. Through the door he could see that the bathtub had overflown for the second time that morning. Jareth groaned. Becka laughed slightly as he rushed to the bathroom door. He flicked his wrist again and the bathroom set itself to rights again. Then he looked back at Becka who was still laughing.
The look he gave her a look that startled her so bad she immediately stopped laughing. It wasn’t an angry look, but more of a irritated yet playful look. She instinctively took a step back, Only to find that she was standing to close to the bed. Becka lost her balance and she fell back on the bed with a startled cry. Becka was shocked for only a moment. When she opened her eyes she was looking into the mismatched ones of Jareth. His arms were next to her shoulders, supporting himself as he hovered over her. His wild blonde hair falling around her face. “we need to stop meeting like this.” he said smugly. Becka blushed as he refered to incadint that happened yesterday when she fell and hit her head. She smiled then shoved him off of her and sat up. “are you quite through?” she asked him with a smile, as she swung her head towards him. He was propping himself up on one arm as he lay on his side watching her. He only smirked.
Becka stood up grabbing the dress off the bed. “well if you’ll excuse me I am going to go take a bath and get dressed so I can go to breakfast.” she told him. “your welcome to join me if you like.” she called back to him as she approached the bathroom. Jareth threw his head back and laughed. “I’m welcome to join you?” he repeted. Becka stopped in the doorway and smiled back at him. “yes.” she said giving him a teasing look. “oh so you’re the one giving orders in my castle now are you?” he asked mockingly with his eye brows raised. Becka’s smile slowly vanished at his words and she looked down. She instinctively reached for the rubber band on her wrist only to remember that it was gone. Becka rolled her head and her eyes. Jareth saw her reaction. He immediately dropped his playful act and walked towards her. He placed his hands of her shoulders and turned her towards him. Her head still downcast.
“guess I better go get ready.” Becka told him putting on a smile and looked up at Jareth. She tried to shrug off Jareth’s hands from her shoulder and enter the bathroom. Jareth held on. “Becka,” he said softly. She looked up into his mismatched eyes gazing down at her. They were so gentile. Becka’s lip quivered as she looked away again. She had been thinking about Jareth’s words. She shouldn’t be acting like this, but Jareth’s words seemed to stand out. Giving orders, HIS castle. They reminded her that this was her new home. It almost brought tears to her eyes. “Becka,” he said again. Becka stopped trying to get out of his grasp. “don’t run away from your feelings.” he told her gently. Becka couldn’t look at him, she couldn’t. Becka took a deep breath and wiped the tears that had threatened to spill down her face quickly. “I’ll see you in the dinning room.” she said hastily and walked into the bathroom. She tried to close the door but Jareth was standing right in the middle of if. Becka gave an exasperated sigh and rolled her eyes. “do you mind?” she said sharply. “as a matter a afact I do.” he said quietly.
Becka looked up at him. “I think we should sit.” he told her. Becka shook her head slightly. “please don’t.” she said barely above a whisper. Jareth was forced to ignore her plea. He knew that she would try to resist his help. He gave a faint smile. “we can do this the easy way…” he paused “or the hard way.” he finished beginning to lean down to pick her up over his shoulder the way that he had done when they first met. He was just about to pick her up and sling her over his shoulder before she stopped him. “fine! I’ll do it the easy way.” she told him anger and shakiness filling her voice. Jareth stopped and then stood up. He walked behind her and lowered his hands on her shoulders. He gently led her to the bed. She sat down, tear threatening to fall down her face.
Jareth sat next to her and propped himself up with one of his arms behind her. He looked at her concerned. He had to brake her. He didn’t want to but it was for her own good. Anytime Becka would feel emotion she would hurt herself to keep it from showing. It was not good for her health. “Becka, let it go.” he purred gently to her. Becka fought hard to keep the tears from spilling down her face. It took all her effort. “I…I’m fine.” she choked out, her voice cracking as she spoke. “no your not.” he said stroking her hair off the side of her face. Becka couldn’t do it anymore. She burst into tears and hid her face in her hands. Jareth drew her gently into his arms. He rubbed her back soothingly. “shhh that a girl. Let it out.” he said soothingly. “it’s not fair.” she said in his shoulder. Jareth smiled slightly as he remembered Sarah telling him those exact same words. “life isn’t fair.” he told her gently. Becka continued to cry.
“I miss her so much.” she told him when her sobbs beginning to subside. “as do I.” he said quietly. Becka looked up at him. She had forgotten her mother’s stories. “you really did love her didn’t you?” she asked him. Jareth sighed as he looked into her eyes. He couldn’t hide the pain behind his eyes. “yes.” he said quietly, then he turned away. They sat in silence. Becka realized, that he was hurting to. She felt foolish. She had thought she was the only one who felt as strongly for her mother as she did. Now she realized how wrong she was. He needed comfort as much as she did. She slipped her hand in his. He looked up at her touch. Becka didn’t say anything, but she didn’t need to. Her eyes told Jareth everything he needed to know. Jareth’s eyes however told her nothing. “Jareth,” she said. “you’ve been there for me when I needed you. Now let me be there for you.” Jareth only starred at her with a sad gaze. Then he let out a shaky sigh. Becka leaned against his shoulder again, but this time she placed her arm around his back. They sat in silence, holding onto each other. Comforting each other in their grief.
Chapter 5
After Becka had calmed down and Jareth regained himself Becka got ready and met Jareth in the dinning room. They enjoyed a nice breakfast. They each felt as if a weight had been lifted from their shoulders. They realized that they had someone in this dark world that they could hold onto. Someone to lean on in their grief. Becka had warmed up to Jareth a little. They laughed and joked around all day. Jareth showed Becka all around his castle, and even introduced her to Hoggle, Ludo, and sir Didymus. She loved them. Jareth even put up with them because Becka wanted to be with them. The hours passed by in the blink of an eye and before they knew it, it was dark out. After Jareth and Becka ate dinner Jareth transported them to his study.
Jareth’s study was a good sized room fully furnished with almost everything you could think of. It had a desk, couches, a table and chairs, many books with book shelves, and a very large window on one wall with a small couch in front of it. So one could sit comfortably and watch the view of the labyrinth. The room was dimly lit with candles. Becka looked around the room with wonder and awe. It was one of the most amazing rooms she had ever seen. Jareth snapped his fingers and a slow music began to play. Becka looked around the room to try and figure out where the music was coming from. Jareth walked up to her.
“may I have this dance?” he said smiling down at her with his hand extended towards her. Becka smiled. “I’d be honored.” she said taking his hand. He immediately spun her into him. He put his free hand on her waist, and she put hers on his shoulder. Jareth swept her into an old fashioned waltz. Jareth smiled down at her with one eye brow raised. “you dance marvelously.” he told her. Becka smiled. “thank you.” she said. They continued to dance enjoying each other’s eyes. Finally the song ended. “you’re a pretty good dancer yourself.” Becka told Jareth after the dance ended. “tell me is there anything you can’t do?” she asked with a sly smile on her face. Jareth gave her his best smile that made Becka weak in the knees. She shook her head. What was wrong with her? She thought to herself. “very few things.” he told her. Becka had an idea, but then groaned. “crud!” she muttered to herself. Jareth raised his eye brows. “pardon?” he asked her.
Becka looked up at him. “oh nothing. It’s just… well I wanted to show you the kind of music and the kind of dancing I do.” she said shyly. “is that all?” he asked her. She looked up at him. “well…yeah.” she said blushing. “never mind, it’s stupid.” she turned and began to walk towards the couch when she bumped into a small table. On the small table held Becka’s CD player, and her stack of CD’s. Becka turned back to Jareth with wide eyes. “how did you…” Becka trailed off. Jareth shrugged as if to say ‘I don’t know how those things magically appeared’ then he smiled at her again. She smiled at him then turned back to the CD player and placed one of the CD’s inside of it.
A upbeat fast music began to play. Jareth’s face fell in stunned silence. ‘Uh oh’ he thought to himself. ‘What did I get myself into?’ Becka went over to Jareth and took his hands. “come on.” she said smiling at him, pulling him towards the center of the room. Becka began to instruct him on what to do. “ok now take my hands, now we are going to do a simple step. Just follow what I do.” she said and began to do a move her feet. Jareth looked down and tried to do the same. He knew it would be pointless to try and protest against her. He felt like an idiot following her feet. “ok now I’m gonna lead you until you think you’ve got it.” she told Jareth. Jareth began to open his mouth in protest but Becka had already began to lead Jareth in a series of twirls and spins. Jareth was not very flexible and felt like a fool having a girl lead HIM in a dance. He finally stopped. “I think I get the hang of it” he said with a smug smile. Becka recognized his sly smile as the one she gave him. Her mouth opened in protest but it was to late. Jareth had already began to spin and twirl her in a series of different directions. Becka had no choice but to fallow his lead.
They continued to dance as the song went on. Jareth seeming to know exactly what to do. As the song ended suddenly Jareth dipped Becka. He dipped her so low her hair touched the floor. Becka was so shocked she grasped onto Jareth’s shoulders feeling as though she would fall to the ground and hit her head again. She looked at the goblin king panting as she spoke. “my, I’m beginning to think there is nothing you can’t do.” she told him. He was panting as well. “what can I say? I’m a fast learner.” he teased. They caught each other’s gaze. No smirks, no smugness, no laughter, no grief, only each other.
They stayed like that in silence for several minutes before Becka broke the silence. “ummm Jareth? I’m beginning to feel the blood rushing to my head.” she told him. It took a moment for Jareth to comprehend what Becka just said then he stood up abruptly setting Becka on her feet. Unfortunately Jareth stood up a little to fast and Becka began to loose her balance. Jareth caught her hand and spun her into him. Becka looked up into his eyes once more. “guess you’re still caught in the music.” Becka told him with a sly smile. Jareth only smiled down at her. There was a moment of silence. Then Jareth slowly bent his head down towards Becka’s face. Becka only looked at him as he did so and slowly closed her eyes. Then she opened them suddenly. “it’s getting late.” she told him with a nervous smile. Jareth looked down at her and gave a faint smile. “your right. It’s way past your bed time.” he said mockingly. “what are you? My father?” she asked with a wry smile. Jareth gave a slight smile and chuckled. “thankfully no.” he said. “but it has been a long day and you need to get some rest.” he told her, the laughter gone from his voice.
With that, Jareth transported them to Becka’s bedroom door. Becka blushed. “you didn’t have to escort me to my room.” she said blushing. Jareth gave a half smile. “I didn’t.” he admitted to her. Becka looked up at him confused. “my room is right here.” he said pointing to the door just across from Becka’s. Becka looked at the door. “ah, I was wondering what was in there.” she said. Then she looked back up at Jareth. Jareth looked down at her for another moment then spoke. “good night.” he told her softly. Then he kissed her. Becka was so shocked she didn’t know what to do. Then her eyelids flickered shut and she brought her arms around Jareth neck. Jareth reached over and opened the door to her room, still locked in their kiss. Then he swept her into his arms still kissing her. He walked her over to the bed and laid her down gently on the bed. Then he parted panting slightly. “get some rest.” he told her gently. Becka was shaking slightly. “uh hu.” was all she could say. Jareth gently removed her arms from his neck and left the room closing the door behind him.
Becka was left alone in the dim room still recovering from the kiss that Jareth had given her. It was a passionate kiss full of love, but he didn’t give it to her in an impure manner. He was respecting of her boundaries, and she liked that about him. Becka sighed with a smile and got up from her bed. There was an old fashioned nightgown laying on the trunk at the end of her bed. It was the kind of nightgown that you would see a medieval princess where. Becka thought it was beautiful. Becka took it into the bathroom and changed into it. She came out and placed the dress she had been wearing on the trunk at the end of her bed, then walked over and sat at her vanity.
Becka was still glowing from the kiss that Jareth had given her. She slowly brushed her hair humming a soft tune as she relived the moment. Becka was so rapped up in thought that she didn’t notice a figure immerging from the shadows, as it crept up behind her. When Becka finally realized she wasn’t alone it was to late. Becka jerked around just in time to feel the blow on the back of her. Becka was knocked unconscious. The stranger picked her up over his shoulder and smiled. “now for the second part of my revenge.” and with that he disappeared.
Chapter 6
Jareth woke up the next morning feeling as if he were floating on air. He had had a wonderful night. He thought of Becka as he slept. Could it be possible that the goblin king had fallen in love again? Jareth knew the answer to that. It was true. Jareth had fallen in love again. He beat himself up about it at first, telling him he was being disloyal to Sarah, but then he thought about it. She wouldn’t have wanted him to dwell on her death. She would have wanted him to keep living and loving. He was immortal so if his true love died it would be a long life living alone. Jareth finally came to terms and allowed his love for Becka to flow through him. It was what Sarah would have wanted. He called for Hoggle as he got out of bed. “HIGGLE!” he called using to dwarf’s name incorrectly. A moment of silence before Hoggle entered into the king’s chamber. “yes your majesty?” he said bowing. “Hedgwart, go and tell Becka that I would like her to join me for breakfast. Tell her to come at 9:00.” he told him. It was already six minutes till nine. The goblin king obviously enjoyed making her stress out a little. “yes your majesty.” was Hoggle’s reply before he left the room. Jareth was curious to see what kind of mess he would find Becka in this morning.
After Hoggle had gone Jareth got dressed. He wore gray tights and his underground style leather jacket with matching boots. He wore his usual gloves and his medallion which you could see against his bare chest. Then he transported himself to the dinning room to wait for Becka, although he knew she would be late. He smiled to himself. He looked forward to seeing her again.
Hoggle arrived at Becka’s door. He knocked gently on it so as not to disturb her to much. “Becka?” Hoggle called through the door. “it’s me Hoggle. May I come in?” no reply. Hoggle knocked again. When there was still no reply he gently opened the door and stepped inside. The room was normal, everything in it’s place but for some reason there was an eeriness to the room. Almost as if something bad had happened and the room still carried the scent. Hoggle didn’t like this one bit. He cautiously walked towards the bed getting an uneasy feeling. “Becka?’ he said again, a small pang of worry beginning to rise in his throat. Hoggle came to the side of the bed where Becka had been sleeping. He tried to shake the mass of blankets that lay on the bed. But nothing happened. “Becka, it’s time to get up. Becka?” with a sudden rush of panic Hoggle pulled back to covers to find the bed empty. Hoggle gasped and stepped backwards in shock. He bumped into the vanity table. He turned suddenly and felt that the eerie presence came from that very spot. Goose bumps ran up Hoggle’s spine as he realized what had happen. “oh no!” he cried to himself. “I’s gots to warn Jareth!”
Jareth was in his dining room standing in front of the window. He was staring out at the labyrinth. He did this often, for the labyrinth always inspired him. He glanced at the clock. Thirty seconds until 9:01. Jareth smirked to himself. He would be paying Becka a visit real soon. Just then Hoggle came bursting into the dining room. “Jareth!” he cried. Jareth turned to Hoggle with a smirk still on his face, but when he saw Hoggle’s terrified face the smirk vanished and was replaced with a panicked expression. “Hoggle?” he said with concern rising in his voice. “what’s wrong?” Hoggle ran up to the king and had to bend over to try and catch his breath. “it’s Becka.” he wheezed still gasping for breath. “she’s…gone” he told the king still panting. Jareth face turned to the door with an expression of panic. Then he disappeared. Hoggle was left alone in the room still trying to catch his breath and try to keep tears from rolling down his face
Jareth appeared in front of Becka‘s door. “Becka!” cried in panic hoping, hoping that she would answer. Jareth swung the door opened but immediately stopped in his tracks. He felt the eerie sense that was lurking around the room. Something terrible had happened by someone horrible. Jareth walked over to the bed only to find it empty. He searched the entire room trying to see if she was hiding. Jareth finally stopped his search when he inspected the bathroom. His face nothing but panic and worry. Jareth held on to the door frame of the bathroom for support. He felt his legs turn to jello as he tried to stand. She was gone. Hoggle appeared in Becka’s doorway again. Jareth turned his gaze towards him but wasn’t really looking at him. “she’s gone.” he said barely above a whisper. Jareth slid to the ground in defeat. Hoggle walked over to the fallen king. Jareth starred in front of him breathing heavily. Hoggle put a small hand on his shoulder. Then Hoggle turned his head to the vanity. “somethin bad happened over there.” he muttered to Jareth. Jareth came out of his trans and looked over at the vanity. He slowly got up from the floor with unsteady legs as he made his way to the vanity. Hoggle was right. Someone had been there, someone evil.
Jareth knelt down on one knee as he inspected the area around the vanity. Jareth closed his eyes and breathed in the air. Suddenly his eyes flew open with sudden realization of who had been there. “Shadlek.” Jareth muttered darkly. Hoggle stepped back when he heard Jareth utter this word. Shadlek was Jareth’s older brother. He was in line to inherit the throne from their from father, but Shadlek’s greed for power made the king banish him to the wastelands. Jareth was the next person to claim the throne and Shadlek hated him for it. It was the one that took Becka. “a-are you sure it was him?” Hoggle asked hoping that the king had been mistaken.
Jareth slowly rose from his position on the floor. “I’d recognize the smell of that rat anywhere.” he said darkly glaring at the wall. They were both silent for a moment. Then Jareth spoke to Hoggle. “Hoggle, gather as many of the goblins as you can. I want the castle to be protected, when I return, and if all else fails I want them to be able to invade Shadlek’s territory if necessary.” he told the dwarf. “yes your majesty, but what will you do?” he asked the goblin king. “I’m going to go find Becka and bring her back, and to settle things once and for all with Shadlek.” as Jareth spoke his fists clenched at his sides. Hoggle’s eyes widened. “I’ll go with yous.” Hoggle said. Jareth turned to him. “no Hoggle. I need you to stay here and protect the castle. I don’t know what reasons Shadlek has for taking Becka but when I get her back there is no doubt that he will try to take her again. If things happen for the worst I’ll send her back here and fight him of myself. You’ll need to keep her safe. And…if I don’t come back-” Hoggle cut him off. “don’t talk like that’s Jareth. Yous will be comein back.” Hoggle told the king. Jareth knelt down to Hoggle’s eye level and put a strong hand on his shoulder. He could see tears in his eyes. “I’m going to bring her back.” he told the dwarf. Hoggle nodded, and with that the king vanished.
Chapter 7
Becka’s head ached. She groaned and opened her eyes. It took a moment for her eyes to focus on the gloomy surroundings, but when they did focus she realized she was not in Jareth’s castle. Becka tried to move but found that she couldn‘t. She looked at one of her hands and saw that it was clapped in iron. Both her arms were stretched out on either side of her hanging slightly above her head. She was standing on cold stone floor that was damp. Becka frowned and began to wonder how she had gotten there. Her body ached as she tried to move. Her ankle were clapped in irons as well, only they were more of a hand cuff instead of being change to a stone wall. Becka could only hang there as her body tried to move their sore muscles.
“your finally awake.” came a voice right in front of her. Becka jerked her head up to see who it was. Standing before her was a man dressed entirely in black. He wore a black poets shirt, black pants, black boots, and black gloves. His black hair was slicked over the top of his head. He gazed down at her with deep red eyes that seemed to burn with rage, and anger. Becka shivered slightly when she looked into his burning red eyes before responding. “w-who are you?” she asked giving a slight frown. The pain in the back of her head caused her brain to have a hard time focusing.
The figure smiled and wicked smiled. “my name is Shadlek. I am Jareth’s brother.” he told her. Becka’s eye opened wide with shock. “his…brother?” she asked in disbelief. Shadlek smirked down at her. “hasn’t he told you about me?” he asked, although he already knew the answer. Becka shook her head in confusion. “doesn’t surprise me. Probably trying to protect you from me.” he said as he turned and walked down a few stone steps. “to bad.” he called out to her, then turned back to look at her. “your going to need it.” he said with a wicked grin. Becka only looked at him, another shiver ran through her spine. “what do you want?” she asked trying to hide the fear that was rising inside of her.
Shadlek scowled and turned away. “I want revenge.” he said darkly. “revenge? Revenge for what?” Becka asked in disgust. In an instant Shadlek was inches away from her face. She could smell his hot breath against her face as he spoke, glaring into her eyes. “I want revenge on Jareth. And your going to help me get that. I want to se him suffer a worse fate then I have suffered.” he growled down at her. If not for the chains that held onto her she would have took a step back. She did not like the way he was looking at her. She shivered. “h-h-how are you going to d-do that?” she choked out in a scared voice. She knew it had something to do with her and that she wouldn’t like it. Shadlek gave an evil smile and looked her up and down. “why, by using you of course.” he said smugly. Becka’s eyes widened in fear. Shadlek smirked and continued. “I’m going to take my revenge on him by killing you. Well, almost killing you anyways. Just like I did with your mother.” he said then he turned and took a few steps away from her and began to pace slowly. Becka’s eyes widened. “my mother?” she asked wandering if she had heard him correctly. “yes.” he said then looked at her. “how do you think she got sick so fast. And with no explanation as to how she had gotten so sick. That year in a half, confined to a bed in so much pain. Some nights waking up and crying out in pain. Who do you think made that possible?” he asked her his smirk growing wider as the realization hit her.
Becka’s eyes widened in terror, her mouth gaping. Then her expression turned to one of rage and hate, as tears spilled down her face. “HOW COULD YOU?!” she screamed at him trying to run over and hit him, but the irons held her back. “ because Jareth loved Sarah, and in order to hurt him I had to kill her.” he told her simply, as if the pain he had caused Becka and Jareth were nothing to be concerned about. Becka glared at him with such rage and hate. She wanted nothing more then to rip his eyes out. Shadlek smirked at her expression. “unfortunately her death was not enough. He fell in love again, and this time I want to make him suffer. that’s why I have brought you here.” he told her. She only continued to glare in response, clenching her teeth so hard it hurt her jaw. Tears still streamed down her face. “I plan on torturing you until you have only an inch of life left. By then he will have figured out what has happened and come to rescue you. I want him to be able to hold you in his arms and watch you die. Only then will his will be truly broken.” he said grinning at her menacingly. “his will, will never be broken! His will is as strong as your!” she shot at him trying to free herself. “we’ll see about that.” he muttered to himself. Then a whip appeared in his hand as he walked around back of her. Becka heard the whip crack behind her and she cried out in pain as she felt it’s blow on her back.
Chapter 8
Jareth had transformed himself into his owl form and flew off. There were few places that Griffin would be. He was banished to the waste lands so Jareth took off in that direction. Jareth flew for hours, trying desperately to push back the fear and worry that was building up inside of him. He tried countless places before finally reaching his destination. He found a tower of rock In the center of a black space. The black space around the rock tower was empty space. A bottomless pit. The tower of rock looked like a dragon’s head. The platform was inside of the dragon’s mouth. He decided to try there. He landed on the platform and transformed back into his normal self. He looked around and saw Becka hanging helplessly between two walls of stone. Her wrist attached to chains connected to the walls. Jareth rushed to her. “Becka!” he cried and looked at her face. She was half conscious. Her eyes were closed. Jareth held her head in his hands to inspect the damage that had been done to her. She had a bruise on one side of her face, and a small trail of blood coming from the side of her mouth. She had blood rushing down the side of her face from a gash on her head. Jareth looked at her in horror, as her pale bruised face. “Becka, I’m sorry.” he whispered and kissed her forehead. Becka groaned slightly. Jareth flicked both his wrist and the iron holding onto her wrists suddenly let go, sending Becka falling to the floor. Jareth caught her in his arms and slowly brought her down to the ground, then he saw her back for the first time. The part of her nightgown that was covering her back was reduced to shreds from Shadlek’s whip. Her back was covered with blood from the red stripes that covered her back. Jareth looked at her in horror. He held her gently in his lap, careful not to touch her beaten back. Becka groaned again and opened her eyes slightly. She looked up into Jareth’s worried mismatched eyes.
“Jareth?” she said in such a faint voice Jareth could barely hear her. “yes, Becka, I’m here.” he told her trying not to let the tears escape his face. Becka’s eyes slowly slid shut as she lay unconscious again. “my my my.” came a smooth voice from behind Jareth. Jareth’s worried gaze turned to one of rage as the tears fell down his face. Jareth gently lay Becka on her side, careful not to let her back touch the stone floor. Jareth stood and turned menacingly towards Shadlek, his mismatched eyes burned with fury as he walked towards Shadlek. “what have you DONE TO HER?!” Jareth yelled as he grabbed his brother by the shirt. Shadlek’s smirk remained on his face. “the same thing I did to her mother.” he said. Jareth’s grip loosened slightly and his face showed a small expression of pain and disbelief, before turning back into anger and rage. “WHAT?!” Jareth screamed into Shadlek’s face. Shadlek smiled. “oh come now Jareth, you didn’t think anything was wrong with the fact that someone you loved dearly suddenly got deathly ill for no apparent reason? It never occurred to you that there was no name for this sickness and no cure? Come now Jareth, I thought you were smarter then that.” Shadlek told him smugly. Jareth’s rage beginning to disintegrate as the shock and realization became clear.
Then without warning Jareth punched Shadlek in the face letting go of his shirt. Griffin stumbled back and felt his jaw. “that was harsh brother.” he said laughter in his voice. Jareth glared at him. “we end this now.” he growled. just then Shadlek transformed into a black crow and Jareth transformed into an owl. They flew in the air fighting with what powers they had. Shadlek tossing fireballs and Jareth which exploded with force. Jareth hurling crystals at Shadlek causing explosions as well. Shadlek swooped down and grabbed onto Jareth with his sharp talons. Jareth squawked with pain as he tried to get the crow off of him. The crow bent down and bit Jareth’s shoulder hard. Jareth cried out in pain and flipped in the air which sent Shadlek loosing his grip and forced to fly on his own. Jareth managed to fly, just barely, with one wing and the other trickled blood. Then with all the strength he could, he muttered, “this is for Sarah.” and then threw a crystal ball at him. Shadlek looked up just in time to see the crystal change into an arrow, with and iron head. Shadlek’s eyes widened in disbelief, but it was to late. The arrow shot strait through Shadlek’s heart. Shadlek hung in midair for only a second before falling into the blackness below.
Jareth was panting, but he managed to maneuver himself towards the platform and land safely on it’s stony surface. He transform back into his human form, standing on his hands and knees. Blood still trickling from his shoulder. Jareth paid no attention to the pain in his shoulder, instead he rushed to Becka’s side lifting her head up in his arms. He felt her neck for a pulse. Her heart beat was very faint. “Becka, Becka hold on. Just hold on. Your safe now. Don’t die. I’ll kill you if you do.” Jareth’s eyes filled with tears. He had no idea what he was saying, all he knew was that he would not be able to live without her. Jareth hugged her close to him and he cried, hoping, praying that she would live. Then he heard a faint voice. “Jareth?” Jareth pulled back to see Becka’s confused eyes. Jareth breathed a sigh of relief. “yes my love. I’m here.” he told her. Then he gently picked her up in his arms, careful not to touch her back, and they vanished.
Chapter 9
Jareth appeared in Becka’s room with Becka in his arms. Hoggle had been sitting on the her bed. He had been so worried about them both. He did as Jareth commanded and gathered up all the goblins to guard the castle. Once Hoggle had done that he retreated to Becka’s room trying to hold onto hope. When he saw Jareth appear with Becka in his arms he was immediately overjoyed to see them but the relief vanished when he saw them both in their conditions. He saw blood covering Jareth’s shoulder and got a glimpse of Becka’s back. Hoggle gasped and hopped off the bed to Jareth’s side. “Jareth what happened?” Hoggle asked worried. Jareth walked over to the side of the bed and gently laid Becka down. “Shadlek did this.” Jareth muttered. Saying Shadlek’s name felt like a bad taste filling his mouth. Hoggle looked at the unconscious Becka lying on the bed. “she needs medical attention.” Jareth said not taking his eyes off of Becka. “Hoggle fetch me some supplies.” he ordered trying not to let his fear show. Hoggle quickly ran out of the room. Jareth held her hand, and pushed the hair away from her pale face. He felt so helpless. She had been badly beaten, and had lost a lot of blood from the wounds on her back.
Hoggle returned with a box and brought it to Jareth. Jareth immediately set to work on healing Becka. Her turned her over so he could reach her back. Hoggle was horrified at the damage that had been done to her. Jareth began to wipe up the blood from her back. “where is he now?” Hoggle asked Jareth. Jareth replied without taking his eyes off of his work. “he’s dead.” Jareth told him simply. The words came as a surprise to Hoggle, but he didn’t press the king further. All he could do was sit helplessly on the vanity chair next to the bed and watch as the king worked on healing Becka. Jareth worked furiously. He cleaned the wounds that were striped on her back and applied medicine to them to help them heal. Then he examined her face. “Hoggle,” he finally said. Hoggle jumped. “yes your majesty?” he asked. “go and fetch Lassia. I need her to examine Jo for anymore wounds that I don’t know about.” Jareth told Hoggle as he began to clean the wound on her head. Hoggle nodded and dashed out of the room. He had done all he could do to heal her back. She had lost much blood. The wounds that striped her back were deep. Jareth looked at her with sad eyes. “please.” he said in such a quiet voice that nobody could hear even if they had wanted to. “please live.”
Hoggle came back with a Lassia. She was a maid that worked in the castle. She was a fairy so she knew how to help heal people fairly well. She had long fair blonde hair, almost white. With pale green eyes. She wore a gown that matched the color of her eyes. Lassia stepped into the room and looked over at Becka shocked.
She quickly regained herself and walked over to Jareth. Lassia had been a acquaintance of Jareth’s for as long as he could remember. She was a maid that worked in the castle. Jareth didn’t know much about her but there were many times when he was upset about something, and Lassia was there. She listened to his complaints, his worries, his angers. She listen to every word he said. He would just speak his mind and Lassia would gladly listen. Sometimes Jareth even found he went down to the laundry room just so he could find her and tell her everything that was on his mind.
Lassia stood behind Jareth. “what has happened?” she asked him softly. “Shadlek kidnapped her and beat her to have his revenge on me.” he let out a shaky breath after he spoke. Lassia placed a gentile hand on Jareth’s shoulder. Jareth reached up and grasped Lassia’s hand. “she is in good hands Jareth. I will take good care of her.” she told him softly. Jareth nodded, then he stood and left the room with Hoggle following close behind him.
Jareth was pacing the floor in front of his bed. Hoggle sat on Jareth’s bed in silence, as he watched the distressed king. It had been almost 3 hours since he had left Lassia to take care of Becka, and still no word yet. The king was growing impatient. “what could be taking her so long?” he muttered to himself. Hoggle was about to open his mouth and try to say something comforting, but there was a knock at the door. Jareth opened it in an instant. He opened the door to find Lassia standing there with a small smile. “well?” Jareth asked his fear covering his face. Lassia smiled at the distressed king. “I inspected her thoroughly. The only thing I found was a nasty bruise on her leg. Other then that she is in perfect health. You can go to her now.” as soon at Lassia finished Jareth bolted past her and into Becka’s room. Lassia was left standing in the doorway, smiling, as Hoggle walked up behind her. “he really cares for hers huh?” Hoggle said, not really asking. He knew. Lassia smiled. “yes. yes he does Hoggle.”
Jareth rushed into Becka’s room, anxious to see her again. He had been separated from her for 3 hours, in that time he had nearly driven himself mad with worry and fear. Hoggle had convinced Jareth to have some attend to his shoulder. Reluctantly, Jareth allowed a doctor to see to his shoulder, but all his thoughts had been focused on Becka. Now he was with her again. Jareth rushed to Becka’s side on the bed. He slipped his hand into hers. Becka was lying face down, so as not to disturb the wounds on her back. She was still unconscious. Becka had been placed into a new nightgown covering the wound on her back.
Jareth finally let go of Becka’s hand after awhile and sat beck in a chair, starring at her sleeping form. After awhile Becka stirred slightly and frowned. She groaned. Jareth leaned closer to her and took her hand. She opened her eyes slightly. “Jareth.” she said in a weak voice. “I knew you would come.” she told him in a quiet voice, partly muffled by the pillow. Jareth only smiled and stroked her hair. “h-he kept telling me you wouldn’t come. He-” “shhh hush. It doesn’t matter now, just rest.” Becka tried to speak again but drifted off the sleep. Jareth sighed. He was relieved to know that Becka was safe, but he still didn’t want to leave her. Jareth stood and walked towards the other side of the bed. He gently crawled onto it until he was next to Becka. Jareth laid down his back against the headboard of the bed. He just starred at her sleeping next to him. He stroked her hair gently, as he wondered what would have happened to him if she had died?
Chapter 10
Becka was afraid to open her eyes and find that she was still in Shadlek’s grasp. Then she felt the soft bed under her weight and knew she wasn’t in Shadlek’s grasp. She slowly opened her eyes and saw the surroundings of her own room in Jareth’s castle. Becka breathed a huge sigh of relief and fear. Tears welling up in her eyes. Becka breathed heavily trying to keep the tears from flowing down her face. She realized that she was laying face down on her bed. She wondered why that was, since she hardly ever slept like that. Becka tried to get up and immediately felt a stinging pain on her back. She fell back on the bed, gasping for breath. What had happened? Then she remembered Shadlek beating her with a whip. Then she heard the door open and someone walk into the room. A maid appeared at the corner of her eye. The maid stopped what she was doing when she realized that Becka was awake.
“my lady! Your awake!” the maid cried out joyously. Becka was confused, but was focusing on trying to hold back her tears to much to care. The maid’s expression faded. “oh milady. It’s ok. You’re safe now. His majesty saved you.” Lassia told Becka comfortingly smoothing her hair out. Becka tried to speak but was only over come with tears. She sobbed uncontrollably. The shock of everything hitting her like a spear through the heart. After awhile the maid got up from the bed side and spoke to Becka. “ you can call me Lassia milady. I’ve come to help you change into this nightgown. It’s specially designed so that we can take care of the wounds on your back.” Lassia explained to Becka while helping her sit up. Becka frowned. “we?” she asked. Lassia only nodded and helped her change into the new nightgown.
On the back of the nightgown was split, like a hospital gown that tied at the neck. Thankfully unlike a hospital gown it only opened half way down the back of the gown, stopping at Becka’s waist. Lassia helped Becka lay back down in bed face down. “I need to clean your wounds my lady.” Lassia told Becka. Becka only nodded and aloud Lassia to do so. “how do you feel today milady?” Lassia asked Becka as she applied a wet washcloth the wounds striped across Becka’s back. “in pain.” Becka said softly but harshly. “I know milady. You just- oh.” Lassia interrupted herself with a confused tone. “what is it?” Becka asked. “oh nothing my lady, it’s just it looked like on of the wounds on your back needs stitches. I’ll go and fetch his majesty.” Lassia said and stood up.
“what?!” Becka shrieked trying to get up, but Lassia gently pushed her back down on the bed. “shh it’s all right milady. I need to fetch his majesty so he can stitch up that wound before it gets any worse. Now please lye down. I need to go and get him now.” and with that Lassia left the room. Becka groaned. She did NOT want to be stitched up like a teddy bear in need of repair, and least of all by Jareth.
Becka heard someone clear their through in the doorway, and knew who it was. Becka groaned again and closed her eyes. “this can’t be happening.” she mumbled into her pillow. Jareth smirked and walked around to the side of the bed. “oh but I’m afraid it is.” he told her laughter covering his voice. Becka was blushing furiously. She stuck her face into her pillow. Jareth laughed. Then Becka felt the weight shift in the bed and turned her head to look at Jareth nervously. Jareth was inspecting the wound on Becka’s back. The wound was deep, and was bleeding slightly. It was located near Becka’s shoulder. “hmm looks like Lassia was right. You’re going to need stitches. I’ll be right back.” Jareth told Becka, then he disappeared into the bathroom.
Becka groaned again. “Jareth do I really have to have stitches? I mean it can’t be that bad. Can it?” Becka spoke in a nervous tone. “I-I mean I slept on it all night so it couldn’t have be-” Becka cut herself off when she saw Jareth standing in the bathroom doorway with a needle in his hand. The needle was shining in the sunlight coming from window. “oh.” Becka breathed as her face went pale. Jareth chuckled at her response as he walked to the bed. A sweat began to break out over Becka’s brow as he approached her.
“I promise, I will be as gentile and painless as I can possibly be.” Jareth promised Becka. Becka sighed. “that still doesn’t take away the fact that there is going to be pain. Can’t you just…use your magic or something? Anything to take the pain away?” Becka begged. It pained Jareth to hear her speak those words. He wanted more then anything to make her fall asleep so he could heal her but he knew he couldn’t. “no. I’m afraid not. Because I did not cause this to happen, I can not use my powers to help it in anyway.” he sighed. “are you ready?” he asked gently. “if you wait till I’m ready you’ll be waiting forever.” Becka told him sternly, but with laughter mixed in as well. Jareth gave a small smile. “that my dear I can do. However you on the other hand you cannot go without stitches forever. Now lye still, this will only take a minute.” he told her gently. Becka braced herself for the pain.
Becka nearly cried out in pain as soon as her flesh was pierced by the needle. She gripped the pillow, and bit her lip till it began to bleed slightly. Tears welled up in her eyes as they fell down her face. After a few minutes though she couldn’t do any of those things. She began to feel weak. No matter how the pain, she could not get enough strength to even raise her hand up. Her eyes began to flicker, and before she knew it she heard Jareth’s voice speak to her faintly. “finished. Becka… are you all right?” Jareth asked concerned. Becka took a minute to respond, blinking her eyes as she tried to focus. “I…I’ll be ok.” she muttered. Jareth placed a hand to her forehead. “are you sure? You look pale.” Becka gave a slight smile. “it’s just…things like this make me feel queasy. I would never be a good doctor.” she said and gave a small laugh. Jareth chuckled. “you should get some rest. I will see you tomorrow.” he said and with that Becka’s eyes fell shut as Jareth’s words reached her
