Safety, at what cost?
After hearing about a shooting on the news or from the morning newspaper, many people begin to question their safety on school campus, some even go as far as to demand that their schools set up metal detectors and use security cameras. Yet when when these people do, they rarely think about the cost of installation, maintenance, and operation of these devices. the errors and problems they cause, or of the psychological effect they have on the students, parents of students, and the school staff. Once everything is taken into consideration, these security devices are clearly not worth the inconvenience they cause.
