Our English homework this weekend was to write a sonnet about anything we wanted. I'm probably the only person in the class who actually enjoyed being assigned this. xDD
Winter is come, the branches bare and broken
Under the weight of ice in lacework spire
The birds have fled, cold silence now awoken
To rule o’er land in stillness new attired
Below trees with dark twigs spun thin as wire,
Leaves trapped beneath the bright expanse of snow
Muted by time, their colors once of fire
Now paled to soft echoes, suspended low.
This is the realm of ice, its eyes aglow
With silver glints, exquisite in design
Yet cold as final sleep, as heartbeat slowed
And of life’s dance, a wind’s the only sign.
But all the cold of winter chills in vain:
The wind whispers, A spring will come again.
