JUST ANOTHER DAY

Lance
I got on the bus. Last night I laid on my bed, dreaming about her face, and her cute little laugh. As if my dream had become real, there she was, laughing with Amy. "Lance, sit in front of us!" She managed through her chuckles. A lock of her dark hair was hanging in her face, and she pushed it back. Most other guys see girls do this and never think a thing of it. But when Soph does it, it's like magic. Not the cheesy stuff you see in Las Vegas, but real magic. Like a little kid seeing fireworks for the first time. If only she could hear my thoughts... Then she'd know how fantastic I think she is. I wouldn't have to worry about telling her to her face and ruining our friendship.
"...and then he said, 'Amy, I'm only doing this because they dared me', so I punched him in the face." Amy complained. "Lance, next practice if you get a chance, tackle Harold as hard as you can."
I chuckled. "Alrighty then. Don't be surprised if he comes in in a full body cast." Amy and Soph smiled.
This morning, instead of walking Amy to her freshman class, Soph came with me. Idiot. Say something, damn it. Talk to her. "What are you doing after school?"
"Babysitting." Soph replied. "The little terror."
"That sucks." The 'little terror' is her little brother. He's eight, and he drives Soph to the point of insanity. "Need help?"
Her eyes lit up. "Would you? He's always bothering me and I can never get anything done. I'll split what my mom's paying me!" She almost jumpeds for joy.
She must hate her brother. "You don't have to." Being with you would be enough, I wanted to add. Why can't I say things that matter?
"You're an idiot, Lance." Soph replied, almost as if she had heard my thoughts. "Anyone who would babysit that brat without pay is clinically insane."
"I guess I'll be the next one checking into the asylum." I joked. She smiled.
Another boring day, more amazing grades, hanging with the nerds and their striped polo tops, same old. The only thing that keeps my attention these days are those beautiful blue eyes.
After school, I went to Soph's house. Her brother was a little terror, just like his nickname. He ran into the house with squirt guns and shot at us. Soph beat him. We were able to force him into his bedroom. While we held the door closed, he yelled "Soph has a boyfriend! She's gonna kiss him!" Even though both of us scoffed, I secretly wished it was true.

They say more than what is spoken,
Promises always get broken.
