RUMORS

Lance
Soph and Amy are waiting for me by my locker when the bell rings. They're laughing, as usual. Soph looks so gorgeous when she laughs... Like an angel. Amy seems to notice me staring at Soph, and smiles at me. "Hi Lance."
"Amy. Soph." I say.
"Very gentleman like." Soph says with a chuckle.
Now's my chance. "Soph, could-"
"Hey Soph! I heard that movie you wanted to see was playing tonight." Amy interrupts.
"Ooh, that new horror flick, right?" Soph responds. "I've been dieing to see that!"
"I know, right? My mom gave me some money. You wanna see it?" Amy asks.
"Obviously!" Soph exclaims. That was so rude of Amy. Right when I thought I could do it...
"Hey Lance, do you wanna come with?" Soph looks at me.
Say yes you idiot. "Sure."
"My mom can bring us." Amy says. She turns to Soph. "You can come with me after school, and we'll pick up Lance at six-thirty. Sound good?"
"Alright with me." Soph says. Is it just me, or does she look disappointed?
"Fine." I say. What am I thinking. She couldn't be.
"Make sure you do your homework, heek!" Amy yelled back. I smiled. Soph and I had been joking around once. "Lance, you're such a geek!" She had laughed. "But I'm a hunk too though!" I had joked back, flexing my muscles. "Fine then." She said. "you're my little heek." We must have chuckled over that for a month. Even some of the guys call me heek. Just one of the things I love about Soph.
~~~
I was exhausted.
After the movie, Amy decided to go out for dinner, and invited me and Soph. Then she left me with the bill. She's lucky I have a weekend job, or she would've been washing dishes. I wonder if Amy usually leaves Soph with the bill.
I walked down the hallway to the Cafeteria. Me and the guys meet up there during free period all the time. I turned the corner, and they were already there, wearing the team jackets, as usual. Lars waved at me.
"Wassup?" I asked.
"Hey Lance, I didn't know your crush was a dike." Lars says.
I pushed him as hard as I could and pinned him to the wall. The other guys mocked him. "What the hell did you just say about Sophia?"
"I said she was a dike!" Lars yelled.
I punched him hard. "Don't you EVER say that about her! Soph is more amazing than you could ever dream of! She's definitely more than you'll ever be!" I was about to lose it. I hoped he'd wake up with a shiner tomorrow.
"It's true man! Don't you think her and Amy have been a little too friendly lately?" He spat.
I thought about this week. They hugged a lot. That's normal. Amy was wearing Soph's clothes on Tuesday. She always does that. Soph jokingly told Amy she loved her. They do that all the time too. I couldn't see anything that would make them think Soph and Amy are... more than friends. The only thing that stood out to me was that Amy held Soph's hand and skipped to her mom's car when they picked me up for the movie. And there really isn't anything wrong with that, is there?
"Listen to me." I said. "I hang out with Soph all the time. She's not like that. Girls are silly. Just because they hug or share clothes doesn't mean that they're lesbians." I said. I almost chocked on the last word. Why? They're not that way. I just know it. Why did I have such trouble saying it then?
"What's wrong Lance? Can't accept the truth?" "Yeah, Lance! Afraid of some lesbo?" "What's the matter Lancey?" "Heek!" The guys all were picking on me. I turned and stormed out of the cafeteria. I was so mad that I didn't even care that they were laughing at me.
I got on the bus. Soph was sitting a seat ahead if Amy. That's new. "Lance, sit with me!" Soph called. This could be my chance.
I sat beside her. "What's up?"
"I wanted to talk to you." Soph says. She looks at me with a smile. She's so beautiful. Don't blow this, you idiot. "Lance, I-"
"Hey, Lance? Can you tell your football buddies to stop drooling? I swear, I walk by them, and all their jaws hit the floor." Amy complains.
"Ugh, Amy! You interrupted Soph! That's so rude!" I said in the most valley-girlish voice I could pull off. Amy and Soph erupted in laughter. I smiled.
"Lance, Lance, Lance. What ever shall we do with you?" Amy says sarcastically.
"Laugh at my jokes?" I say jokingly.
"I guess so!" Soph chuckled. "Oh, this is my stop." She picked up her bags. Already? I hadn't even noticed that the bus started moving. I moved for her, and she got off the bus. It's impossible. She can't be like that. If she was, she wouldn't have sat with me today.
