Once upon a midnight dreary, I took a stroll to make me weary
When I saw a Raven sore
It looked tired, nearly falling, and hit such an appalling,
Appalling wooden door.
And in it’s blindness it kept hitting that dense door.
Making such a noise that couldn’t be ignored.
But then a glimmer of hope arose, and I heard a man’s voice expose
Echoing out faintly from behind that maddening door
He explained, with a voice pained
That I had woken him from his nap, as I had come to rap
Rap upon his chamber door.
I tried to explain that it wasn’t me
But he was so angry I had to flee.
And then the opened wide, and the Raven flew inside
And he continued to stare out the door
Then it finally was shut, and he proceeded to pace but
All the while muttering about some girl Lenore
Probably someone from before.
He threw open the window, (why? I don’t know…)
Then finally seemed to sight me, the visitor from before
He turned pale as a ghost, and then proceeded to wail the most
The worst words I’ve ever heard swore.
But then it became a bore.
After this I merely said, while his face was filled with hatred
“I’m sorry I’ll do it Nevermore.”
But when I said that innocent saying, he began more wailing
I didn’t want to listen to a guy talk about his “lost Lenore”.
Plus, I was sitting on a most uncomfortable piece of lawn décor.
Patiently, I waited, as I was continually berated
And replied in turn, always “I’m sorry I’ll do it Nevermore.”
I would have left by then, but Heaven knows when
He suddenly collapsed upon the floor
He stood still, unmoving, and his heart beat no more.
And now he is dead, and it fills me with dread
To know I will have his death upon my conscience forevermore.
With that aside, I made a choice that would decide
.where to bury the body
So I would see it Nevermore.
