Chapter Six
The school that day was dismal. There were really no classes being held, everyone was moping around in the commons, the halls, the cafeteria, and the auditorium. They were all talking in dismal whispers, an unnatural hush settled over the student body. Close friends of Jessica could be seen wearing black and mascara running down thier faces to match as the tears ran unchecked. Valerie almost threw up the first time she caught sight of them and Nat had to escort her outside to finish thier whispered conversation.

"So you're saying you think you killed Jessica?" Nat said, looking afraid for her sanity. "It was just a dream, Val. It might be an odd coinceidence. Or..." His voice trailed away. "Or." Val finished. The end of the statement was obvious and didn't need to be said.

"Val, you've got to tell - " Nat began, but Valerie shoved a hand over his still-moving lips. "I don't have to tell anybody!" She said, frieghtened. "They'd lock me up in an asylum, or worse!" Her eyes were wide, brimming with guilty tears. "Nobody would understand - !" But this time it was Nathaniel's turn to cut her words short. "I understand." He said, sadly. Valerie looked shocked for a moment, but finally let her wide eyes fall. Her emotions would have to wait for a more appropriate time.

"What do you want?" Nat said, looking at her curiously. Valerie wasn't quite sure what he meant - about him, or about her dream? She decided to adress the more pressing problem, not quite ready to let her true feelings show through yet. "I just want someone to tell me I'm innocent and that I'm not crazy. First the silver, now this! I want to someone to say what's going on. No - " She glared through a tear-flected look of indignation. "I want to be normal!" She screamed the last words, her deperation finally showing through. She could feel the sea spray on her face as she fell to her knees sobbing. Nat quickly kneeled down and gave her a friendly hug, trying to still the gasps racking her fragile form.

Footsteps on the pavement echoed through the bay. They grew louder as if they were approaching, then died away. Val looked up, confused and finally spotted thier owner, the steps muffled by the schools lawn. He was indeed, coming to find her. He had long hair, a little past his shoulder, that was bleached blonde. His eyes were clear blue, or they would have been if they weren't bloodshot from what looked like lack of sleep. He looked a couple years older than the pair. He was wearing an elegant tux, but what really stood out were the white gloves that didn't expose a squre milimeter of skin.

Val stood up, and Nat behind her. "Who are you?" she queried, her tear-stained eyes suddenly scared. "No need to fear, Valerie." He said. His voice was smooth as silk, and wrapped her in just as quickly. "How do you know my name?" Val asked, surprised. "All will be explained." He said, smiling. Nat threw him a filthy look over Valerie's shoulder. Valerie didn't see. She was still staring transfixed at the boy. "And I do mean all" He said. Valerie's head perked up. "You mean...the silver, and these dreams?" He nodded and handed her a buisness card. He turned and walked away. "Wait - !" Valerie called. Nat held her back. "I don't like him." He said, "Look at the card" She did look. It said,

"62442 Alexa Avenue
Blue Valley Cove, 63003"

Turning it over, she read the note written in a loopy hand, with blue fountain ink

Tonight, nine o'clock

Valerie looked up at Nat. "W-what does it mean?" Nat looked confused. He turned the card back over in her hands. "Did it say something. It looks blank to me." Valerie shook her head, hiding her surprize. "No, nothing..."
