Capt. Deep squeezed her eyes shut and let the roaring of the wind and the cries of her crewmates. Capt. Deep clung to the mast, with Will hanging on to her as well.
A large wave came and knocked the ship into the air, and Capt. Deep lost her grip. She was sent careening into the gray sky, rain pounding on her flesh. Will was still on the ship, and she was glad for that. But she knew once she headed downwards she would be severely injured if she wasn’t killed. She also couldn’t herself fall into the water, or the waves, or she would drown. She decided up in the air that she wanted to die in the sea she loved so much. So she plunged head-first into the dark, murky waters, her rope digging into her waist.
She rolled around beneath the surface, water tossing her about. She then found herself breathing air. Her rope was short enough to let her bob on the surface. Then she was being hauled onto the deck, and scrambling toward the mast, coughing and choking on salty sea water
Will’s blue eyes wrapped around her like a silk blanket as the hurricane seemed to increase in wind speed and strength. Capt. Deep held fast along with the rest of her crew. She slipped occasionally and would slide against a wall and would climb right back.
But despite the harshness of what had already become of the storm, the worst was yet to come; The Gull tipped over.
The ship sent dozens of people sprawling through the air, and into the harsh water below.
The life lines had to be cut so the crew could swim free without being ties to the ship. But despite the horrible disaster, there was a small glimmer of hope. The ship was not sinking, and the storm was starting to weaken. Capt. Deep felt pangs of tears biting her eyes. The salt of her tears mixed with the salt of the ocean.
