The Heart of the Angel
Isn't it funny, how people say they don't want power, yet kill others to get it? Comments gladly accepted!
Really Crappy Short Story
Yeah, I just typed this out and reread it. It's really crappy and out of character, but whatever...

Gunshots rang through the air, violet eyes narrowed as peal white teeth clenched with concentration. Sanzo whipped his head around and fired a shot from his pistol, his golden blond hair whipping around to follow his motions. A youkai screamed in pain and was reduced to a mere pile of ash that in turn faded away. Suddenly, something leaned against his back. He tilted his head to the side and eyed the brown haired, golden eyed, teen that now stood behind him, his staff at hand. A small trickle of blood could be seen on the side of his head, where the teen had apparently been struck with a weapon. Sanzo paused for just one split second before returning to firing his gun.
Goku leaned against Sanzo’s back stood there for a moment, trying to rid himself of the daze that had come with being hit in the head by one of the youkai he had killed only moments ago. That is what he got for getting cocky and taunting his foes while there were still five or six more to fight against.
“You okay?” Sanzo’s voice grunted as he stopped shooting to reload with new bullets and then start his new round. Goku swiped away a youkai and then looked back to the worldly priest.
“Yeah, ‘s nothing much,” He replied, wiping away the already drying blood and thrusting his staff into the gut of an assailant. The youkai groaned as the force of the blow snapped his spine and crumpled to the ground and died there, huddled up in a fetal position. Sango grunted again to let Goku know he heard and continued to shoot away. At last, the youkai were all dead and they were allowed a moment to relax. Goku fell to the ground, crossing his legs and leaned back on his hands. Sanzo stored his pistol between his hip and the black belt that kept his robes together before looking down at his partner.
“Stupid monkey…”
“Hey! What’s that for?”
“For getting cocky and lowering your guard, that’s why.”
“…” Goku was silent and rubbed the wound on the side of his head. Sanzo pulled out a lighter and a pack of cigarettes and removed one from the package. He placed it between and led it gently with his teeth. After putting the package away, he lit the cigarette and puffed away at it for a short while. After a few puffs, he took it out of his mouth and looked up the clear, sapphire sky. Several minutes passed before he dropped the cigarette to the ground and stamped it out with his foot and kneeled down beside Goku. He tore off a portion of his sleeve and wrapped it around the teen’s head.
“There, now get up so we can find a place to sleep before it’s too last to do that.” Sanzo stated flatly, standing back up and waiting for Goku to follow. He did and trotted behind the priest as they walked off towards the setting sun. After walking for a few hours, they did come across a town with a vacant room with two beds. After they got the key and entered the room, they immediately got comfortable. Sanzo peeled off the top half of his robes and let them hang down around his waist while Goku picked up the phone to order some dinner. The food came, and was almost completely devoured by the teen, Sanzo just barely able to snatch a piece or two from the hungry hands of his partner.
Soon after the meal, Goku collapsed on his bed and immediately fell into a deep slumber, mumbling so softly; even Sanzo couldn’t tell what words he uttered. Violet eyes watched the teen for the longest time before closing the book he had been reading and positioning at the foot of his own bed. He tugged back the sheets and was about to lie down for the night when he noted that Goku was shivering slightly. Breathing out an irritated sigh, he stood back up and repositioned the teen so that he was under the warmth of his bed sheets and blanket. A smile curled across Goku’s lips and curled up, his head disappearing beneath the blanket. The corners his Sanzo’s lips twitched, but he controlled himself and forced the smile back and returned his own bed. Lying his head on the soft pillow, the priest stared up at ceiling for the longest time, listening to the muffled mumbling that came from under the sheets of Goku’s bed. Slowly, sleepiness overcame him and he drifted off into a light sleep.
Hours passed as the two rested, but Sanzo was soon awoken by a soft tapping on the window to his right. The blond sat up and turned his gaze to the window. When his eyes landed on what was tapping on the window, he swore that his heart skipped a beat. Staring right back at him was the one person he thought he’d never see again; his teacher and father of his childhood. The older blond hung upside down, his long braid dangling behind his head and glowing gold eyes bore into the priest while a frightening grin was plastered across his pale face. Instantly, Sanzo knew that this was a trick and another assassination attempt. He jumped out of bed and kicked Goku’s bed to awaken him. The teen was startled and was on his feet in moments, still half asleep though. The assassin with the grin phased through the window as if it were made of water and touched down on the floor, never letting his gaze leave Sanzo. Goku took one look at him and was completely awake.
“Hello.” The fake teacher chimed in a haunting voice. Sanzo was suddenly frozen in his spot, unable to reach for his gun and simply gawked at their foe. Suddenly, the fake launched at Sanzo, his fingers forming into horrid yellow claws ready to rip and hack the priest to bits. He was stopped, though, by Goku, whom had grabbed his staff. A loud crack was heard and the creature’s neck was shattered. He slumped to the floor and remained still for a moment. Sanzo came to and retreated several steps to Goku’s side.
“Goku, what the hell took you so long to get that staff of yours?” He asked as he reached for his pistol. The creature began to move once more and stood up soon after. His head bent at a funny angel, he stared down at Goku and threw himself at the two again. This time, he was met with a sharp bullet penetrating his skull. Blood splattered across the floor and the creature was killed. Slowly, his body began to melt away and all that was left was a silver ball. Goku and Sanzo stared down at it for a moment, and then their eyes widened at the quiet sound of ticking. “Get down!” Sanzo yelled, stepping in front of Goku and shoving him down to the ground. He turned around to kick the ball away, but was too late. The ball opened up and hundreds of tiny, needle sharp spikes were blasted out of it. Goku was sheltered, but Sanzo took the attack both at full blast and point blank range. The spikes entered his body from many angels, all digging into his flesh and muscle. The priest let out a cry of pain and slumped down to the ground once the attack was over.
“Sanzo!” Goku huddled over the priest’s motionless and bloody form and stared down at him, eyes wide and glistening with forced back tears. “Sanzo, please wake up! Call me stupid monkey! Do something!” He screamed, gently taking his shoulder and shaking it. Sanzo did nothing at all. Feeling helpless, Goku did the only thing he could think of. He reached out and began to wrench the spikes out of his body. Blood began to soak into the floor as he worked hard. Once the tiny weapons were removed, he tore his cloak into strips and bandaged each and every wound. As he worked, tears streamed down his face and dripped onto the priest’s limp body. Even after all that hard work, though, he made no sign of life. Goku gazed down at him with shock and then leaned against his partner’s upper torso and wept, his shoulder shaking hard. For an hour he cried, mourning his friend until he suddenly fell silent. He sat up and wiped away his tears, looking started and gazing at Sanzo. Once again, he leaned down ad pressed his head against his chest. He listened for the longest time, but he was soon able to detect the faint, but audible sound of a fluttering and light heart beat. A meek smile crossed his face; there might still be a slight chance that Sanzo would live.
He moved away from the priest and returned with two pillows and blankets. He slipped one pillow under the priest’s head and covered him up with one of the blankets. With the other two, he lay down beside Sanzo and watched him until the sun began to rise up over the horizon. When the first beam of light touched the priest, his violet orbs blinked open and a soft groan passed from his lips. His body ached badly, but he would recover soon enough. He tilted his head to the side and looked at the sleeping features of the teen next to him. After a while, he closed his eyes again and sighed again. “Why do so many people… Get so damn attached to a single person in this world?” He murmured softly, reaching his hand out to pet the slumbering teen on his head and twirl the brown locks around his thin fingers. He froze still when Goku uttered a few short words in his sleep.
“Thanks…Papa…I hope you breathe again…”
