I think it's a sign that I'm just not cut out to function in society. I may have just killed a small part of my band teacher's soul.
Yeah, here's the story behind my ranting. Yesterday was the first day of auditions for the play ("The Story of Ernestina Scrooge"/"The Ghost of Christmas Past" wink , and I had planned to audition with my friend Tina. Only, right before we went off to practice, Mr Thayer (band teacher/director person) came in and said that the marching band members had to audition Thursday because there was a rehearsal at the same time as the first audition day. And, no matter how much I dislike wasting my time on it, I'm still in the marching band. So, slightly irked, I went to tell Mr. Thayer that the arrangement wouldn't work out. It went a little something like this:
(In the hall): Kuro: -snarl- Liz: -walking by- Kuro: -huge grin- Hi, Liz. I'm a little angry. Liz: -slightly nervous smile- Why? Kuro: -explains situation- So, yeah. You can see why I'm angry. Liz: Yeah, I can. Have fun. -walks off- Kuro: Thanks. -grin disappears, snarl reappears- (In the band room): Kuro: Mr. Thayer? Thayer: Yeah? Kuro: I already worked out an audition with my partner today, so I can't make marching band. Thayer: You'll just have to try out Thursday. Kuro: No, Mr. Thayer, that won't work. I won't have a partner on Thursday. Thayer: Well, we need you here. Kuro: Mr. Thayer, honestly, I didn't like marching band that much to start with... (In my head) Oh crap, here it comes. Thayer: -open-mouthed stare- Well, I just don't know what we're going to do... Kuro: I'm really sorry Mr. Thayer. Thayer: I'm just so disappointed. Kuro: I know...how about I come back next week? Thayer: ...-is distracted by somebody else- Kuro: -waits a second, and then flees back to Mrs. Martin's room (tryout room)-
Talk about foot-in-mouth screwup. It happened yesterday and it's still on my mind. But there's more.
(Later on in the main hallway) Liz: You're my hero. Kuro: Huh? Why? Liz: You finally got up the courage to quit. (Liz and I have been saying we'd quit marching band since last year.) Kuro: Only temporarily. I'm coming back next week. Liz: You're still my hero.
And then, another minute later: Matt: I heard you finally quit. That's awesome. (News travels fast. I still haven't found out how the whole band knew what had happened, but everybody knew in less than an hour.) Carrie (female): That means you're leaving me...-pout- Kuro: Well, kinda. It's only really temporary. Matt: Ah, that sucks. I have no respect for you now. Kuro: -tries and fails to explain- Felder: -jumps into conversation as Carrie and Matt talk to other people- What? Kuro: Oh, the whole thing about me kinda quitting marching band. Felder: Ooh, what happened? Kuro: -explains it until Mr. Thayer says it's time for marching band people to go back to the band room- (I had to kind of gravitate from my band friends so that I wouldn't be inexplicably dragged to the evil that is the band room.)
And...yeah. That whole situation sucked. On the bright side, Tina and I did fairly well in our auditions, and Tori, Nao, Toge, and Spepper (Kaya) all tried out yesterday. I got dragged into being Toge's partner for her audition, but it was the same scene that Tina and I had done, and I had the same part, so it was alright. We did pretty well.
(Sorry, just had to get that out there. Just about all my school-Gaia friends already know what happened, because I've been angst-ing at them. Sorry, guys. ^^;;; )
