Behind the Facade
Strange things from the recesses of my mind.
I am on a quest to understand how steriotyping is good. I can't understand how you can suddenly know a person because their skin color, how they dress, who they know, where they shop, et cetera and so forth.

My step sister called me a poser the other night. Why? Because I'm a black girl and I like skater clothes and rock music. Many people think I'm weird, because instead of 50 cent, I'd rather listen to Linkin Park. I'm a girl, and yet it practically kills me to wear anything that shows above the knee. I like anime, which is apparently quite odd for any black person. My own father looks at me weird when I talk about Hiei from Yu Yu Hakusho, or I get excited when I see Gaara on an episode of Naruto. Everyone except for a small few shy away from me when I say I'm learning Japanese.

Why? Because I'm a teenaged black girl, and I'm not interested in following the standards.

Please comment and tell me how you feel. In fact, tell me a steriotyping story that I can use to tell people about the injustice. Fight this stupidity. Go up to someone you would normally stay away from. If you're steriotyped a prep, hold a conversation with a goth or and emo kid. If you're a steriotype popular person, go hang out with that kid who never says anything. I bet you'll be surprised by the out come. I bet you'll go in wary, and come out with one more friend. Try. Promise me, no. Promise yourself. Promise to try.
