I usually tend to hide my inner-otaku, but I felt like I needed to talk about my weekend, and I need to be a geek to do it. :3
Over the weekend, my dad and I went to State College, Pennsylvania, the reason being that there was a fencing meet on Saturday. So we went, and while we were there, my brother came to hang out with us from his college, and my cousin came to visit from New York. We all met up and had lunch with my uncle. It was nice.
BACK ON TOPIC.
We got to Pennsylvania on Friday night. We talked with the fencing coach (who was also my dad's coach, twenty-something years ago) at the gym where the fencing team was setting up for the meet the next day. Then we got back in the car and drove to the coach's house where we hung out/talked with his wife for a little while. Then we had dinner at a pizza place, and then we went to the hotel. It was somewhere around nine-thirty by then, but that's nothing. Around ten-thirty, as my dad and I were watching TV, a track team arrived at the hotel, and they were placed in all of the rooms surrounding ours. Needless to say, the college kids didn't quiet down until around one-thirty, two o' clock-ish. I passed out around twelve-thirty. But I didn't get much sleep that night. D:
On Saturday morning, we got up, checked out of the hotel, and headed over to the fencing meet, where we met up with my brother and hung out for a couple hours.
So, here's a little background for people who are clueless: There are three types of fencing, with there own rules and swords, etc. These types are foil, epee, and sabre.
So, I'm hanging out with my brother and my dad, and we're attracted to the sabre fencers because girls scream when they win. xD We're sitting on the bleachers, watching the sabre fencers, and this girl comes and sits next to me. She's obviously a Penn Stater, and she's clearly friends with at least a few people on the team, since she's cheering for them by name. And then there's a match between a couple guys, an the girl calls something like: "Let's go, Axel!"
I'm so not kidding. I couldn't even make that up. One fencer's name was seriously Axel. It was on the freaking program and everything.
AXEL FENCES SABRE, BISH. ROCK ON.
After watching some more fencing (the guy named Axel was pretty good; I got to watch a couple of his matches.) we headed out to meet up with my cousin and my uncle for lunch. So it was my dad, my brother, my cousin, my uncle, and me, and we went to Panera Bread for lunch. We sitting eating our lunch when my brother points out a girl wearing what looks like a rearview mirror on her forehead. I look up to see what the hell he's talking about, and there's this girl with a Naruto headband on. And with her is a girl wearing a Fullmetal Alchemist hat shaped like chibi-Alphonse. I watch them as they're walking to sit down, and I realize that the Naruto girl has actually dressed up as Tenten.
I'm still not even making this up. Tenten eats at Panera, with her FMA-outfitted friend.
And then, right before we left, we passed by a comic book store that I'd gone in once before. Just out of curiousity, I asked my dad if it would be alright to check it out again, and so we did. As we're entering, a group of teenagers is going inside too. I'm wandering around the store, and I walk by this girl with pink hair lamenting to her friends that she gave her headband to a friend, and so now nobody will know what she's dressing up as. As I'm wandering, I'm thinking of what she could be dressing up as that nobody would recognize her without a headband. It's only as we're leaving that I realize:
The pink-haired girl was dressing up as Haruno Sakura from Naruto.
THREE GEEK OCCURENCES IN ONE DAY! =B AWESOME.
