Bombay's Random Writings
Random randomness from the mind of a wierd little person. That would be me.
| White Ribbon |
The phone sat dead on the windowseat Subaru had abandoned, next to the toast he had also given up on. He wasn't too sure why he almost felt disappointed when Yoji said he had forgotten. Why on earth would he be disappointed about such a thing? He had always hated White Day, right along with several other holidays. There was no reason to be disappointed or upset.

Though, he did attribute some of his anger to his sister wanting to do dinner. No doubt she would pull his having to pay for whatever feast she was going to eat in the 'spirit of White Day'. Of course, he could use it as an excuse to not get her anything else. 'But do I really want to suffer an evening with that loudmouth asking me questions about what Yoji and I are doing for this blasted holiday?' he thought, cringing slightly at the idea.

That's exactly what she would do, too, and he knew it. She would bug and bother and pry until she pushed him into getting Yoji something. Even if he wanted to, what did you get a guy that was living with you? It wasn't like he seemed to need or want anything. He got everything that he wanted anyway, there was nothing 'special' Subaru would be able to do or get.

A sigh fell passed the youth's lips as he glared daggers at his phone. Just as he did, though, the phone rang, but instead of picking it up, he let the answering machine take it. The voice on the phone only confirmed the reason he was reluctant to answer at all.

"Subi? I know you're there... I bet you're listening to this right now, aren't you?" There was a snort and a sigh. "Well, fine, be that way... I just wanted to know if Hayashi told you about my plans for tonight, and if you got my letter. You know if you try and avoid it, I'll just bug you, or go there and drag you out. I've done it before. Besides, you owe me for White Day, anyway, right? I didn't bug you last year, I deserve something this year." He could tell the woman was grinning on the other end, but Subaru merely snorted, seating himself once more near his would-be breakfast.

"You'd better call me when you get this, or when you stop acting like such a recluse. You're going to dinner with me tonight if you like it or not."

"Make me." The dark-haired male mumbled as the phone died on the other side and the machine beeped to let him know he had a new message. Picking himself and his food up, Subaru went to the kitchen to dispose of the toast and then disappeared back up the stairs toward that little secret study he loved to hide in so much.

"Hayashi, if anyone else calls, I'm not home. If anyone comes to visit, send them away. I'm busy, and I don't want to be disturbed." Hayashi bowed in compliance.

"And if it's Master Yoji?" Subaru paused a moment before continuing up the stairs.
"I'm not home. I don't want to talk to anyone right now."
"Yes, sir."

And with that, the servant continued on his way as Subaru went up the stairs to his room, disappearing almost completely without a trace. He would just work on his book through White Day and everyone else could forget he existed, just as always. That's how it needed to be, and that was how he was contented to have it.

'Screw White Day,' he thought as he turned on the loudest music he could find and locked himself away in his sanctuary. 'Who needs such a stupid, superficial holiday?'
