Stand On Mountains
Virtue alone is nobility.
Norbit review
The new edition of The Panther Prints, my school 'newspaper', came out today. The review of the new movie that Eddie Murphy is in, Norbit, was ripped a new one. Rightfully so. I can't stand Eddie Murphy though. Forgive my bias, but if your movie revolves around a one-trick pony (ie. one actor playing multiple parts), it's doomed to fail.

Here it is:
Norbit poses no competition to future comedies
Though it is only February, Norbit already contends as being one of the worst films of 2007.

The plot begins well with Norbit, comedian Eddie Murphy, literally being dropped off at a Chinese Orphange. Life is normal and rather dull with his crush, Kate (Thandie Newton). Officially beginning the decent of this movie's value, Kate leaves due to her adoption.

As if an answer to his loneliness, Rasputia (later played by Eddie Murphy in a fat suit) violently enters his life. And as predicted, Norbit and Rasputia tie the knot.

Years pass, and Norbit's vicious wife and her three brothers control him, getting him to succumb to them. Thinking life will never improve, Norbit's lost sweetheart returns home. Although this change of plot is welcome to Norbit, it is not enough to salvage the comedic value of Norbit.

The rest of the movie centers on the never-ending rivalry between Rasputia and Kate. If the ending of the movie is not already predicted, then maybe it deserves higher ratings.

The movie portrays three concepts: stereotyping, repetition, and cheap racial jokes. The raunchy and often unfunny "comedy" leaves the viewer wondering if it was really worth the admission price.

For those who adored watching Murphy in The Nutty Professor, Norbit will definitely change their perspective of him. At least The Nutty Professor left the viewer with meaning, but Norbit leaves nothing except less cash in a wallet.

I'm playing journal catch up here, don't mind me. <3

I dunno, I don't think one actor playing many parts is what doomed this movie--Mike Meyers has done it several times in films and they've done just fine, the Austin Powers series did more then fine but I prefer So I Married An Axe Murderer where he's at least three different people in it. I think relying on crude humor, racial jokes and fat jokes was more likely the culprit. I've only seen the previews in the theater and refused to see it for just that reason. But I tend to avoid anything that is on that lowest level of humor.
