Epilogue

One hundred years ago, there lived the Great Ruler of the Kingdom, a separate civilization where, what we call fairytale creatures, thrived in peace. The king was young and newly married, and a long reign was foreseen. However, as the way of the world is such, the Demon region gathered and declared war. As young blood is expected to be, the King went to battle straight away, and it lasted for 5 years. Both sides grew weary, and they called a truce. The Demon Lord and the King met together and spent many a day and night figuring a peace treaty. The Demon Lord wanted power, and the King wanted peace. At last they came to the main decision, which neither liked, but it would do. The Demon Lord would meld into the King’s body, getting power, but not complete. The King faced the chance of being completely taken over by the Demon’s wickedness, but he was sure that his power of will, as well as the love he held for his wife, would keep the evil in check. He also reasoned with himself, that with the Demon Lord under his control, there would be no chance of another demon war. As well as that, the demons were to be exiled to the Region of the Dark, where they were born. The next morning at dawn, the decision was decreed throughout the land. Demons were sent screaming and screeching away, and that very night, the melding would take place. The King’s wife was distraught, and she tried to dissuade her husband to no avail. The treaty was already set in blood. She could feel that something bad was arising. The Demon Lord explained to the King that no one must disturb the ritual, as both would be undergoing an extremely powerful spell, and if anyone disrupts it, the power would be released onto a concentrated point. Right before it began, the King warned his subjects so, and retreated to the spell chamber. Alas, not everyone heard. The Queen had gone out riding, seeking for a way to stop the spell. She rushed back, thinking that if she destroyed the Demon with a spelled athame, all would be well. She was quite young as well, and tended to act rashly, but with a good heart. She rushed to the spell chamber, and burst inside. She stabbed the Demon Lord with the athame, leaving him half-dead. The King saw her but was powerless to stop what happened next. A great light came from the demon and the King, and thrust into the Queen’s body. The King cried silently in anguish and the Demon lord cackled, as the transformation began to end. Soon the two were melded, and the King fell upon his wife’s dead corpse.

His sorrow made him weak, and the evil of the Demon slowly consumed him as time passed. His anger kept him in control of his mind and body though, and he ruled on, slowly becoming wicked. He made himself young forever by dark magic.

The Great Oracle soon came to him, a prophecy revealed to her the night before.

What the prophecy means for those of the Latin tongue is

Hear this, my corrupted King
Thine reign shalt not last forever
One hundred years hence from this midsummer’s eve
Comes the new face of a lost one, in human form shall be
Along with the beginning of thy end
Of the darkness thee prevails upon The Kingdom
A great sacrifice will she make
Again, her life is for you
Upon the day she sets on the Sun Dais
A great light from her soul will emerge
The darkness thee prevails upon The Kingdom
Shall dissipate.

Upon these words, the King shook with anger, and banished the Oracle to the very edge of the Kingdom, almost entering the human world. In response, the King’s royal seer saw an alternative to this fate. He whispered to the King that the Oracle’s words might not come. The King must wait for one hundred years, and before the day of Midsummer’s Eve arrived, he must find the lost one, and destroy her, and his reign would live.
The King was appeased. He continued his iron-fisted rule, and waited.

Chapter One

woke up to rays of sunlight in my eyes. Grumbling, I
pulled my pillow over my face in attempt to fall asleep again, to no avail. A feather poked out and tickled my nose, unfortunately making me sneeze. A knock on the door full sent me fully out of my dream like state.
“Princess Ailerua, I have yer breakfast. It ‘as getting cold in the parlor, so I thought, maybe ye’d like it now when it’s still warm and…”
I sighed, hearing my nurse, and called out to her.
“Please come in Nanda.”
Her stout figure scurried through the doorway with a tray of slightly steaming porridge, randor tea, and fresh pum fruit. It smelled delicious. She set it down on the table, facing the window giving me a view of the courtyard.
“I’ve set out your clothes on the chair yonder,” Nanda bustled around the table, pouring tea, and laying out my breakfast. “Mari has already started your bath. Do not tarry in bed all morn, ot’er wise yer bath’ll get cold, as well as yer breakfast. Hurry Ailerua!” Nanda scurried out the door, and it clicked behind her. The sweet aroma of cinnamon curling up from the bowl finally sent me out of bed. I pulled my cotton robe over my nightgown, and sat at the table. I took my time eating, as I hate being rushed. I knew no one would miss me, as they were all bustling around, getting reading for the Midsummer’s Eve festivities, and my birthday which followed/
I looked out the window, pass the courtyard, and to the gardens.
“The sunflowers have come out. Lovely, they’re my favorite.”
I thought aloud to myself. “19 summers already. Father is surely frustrated by now, as I’ve shunned all those gold hungry suitors. So dull they were. I just glare at them with my freaky eyes and off they go! Anyway, none would’ve really wanted a plain, dark haired maiden who took pleasure in boyish activities.”
I finished the last of my breakfast, and looked at the frilly clothes across from me. I’ve always wondered why Nanda bothered to get me into such a get up. I got up and folded the clothes away, and pulled out the chest from under my bed. I took out my riding trousers and a plain peasant’s tunic, as well as the cloak I set aside for wandering outside the palace walls. Slipping off my robe and nightgown, I walked into my bathing room. Baths always relaxed me, and I soaked in the soapy waters, while Mari washed my hair. It ended too soon, as water cooled quickly, and I wrapped my self in a big, fluffy robe. I sent Mari off, as she came at me with a comb.
“I will groom myself.”
I pulled on my simple undergarments as well as the peasant clothing.
I sat in front of my vanity, and attacked my hair with the comb, my long hair caught up in tangles. I ceased the fight when I passed the comb through freely. I stuffed my feet into calf boots while braiding my hair, and letting the tail lie down my back. I laced up the boots quickly.
Leaving my chambers a mess, I snatched up my cloak and book, and set out to the stables.
In my haste, I nearly knocked down one of my father’s servants in the main hall.
“Princess Ailerua! Oh, practice caution. I’ve been looking for you, as His Majesty has left you a letter.”
I took the fine piece of parchment and opened it eagerly. My father was away, marching to one of the Eastern borders, where a fight had broken out. I loved him dearly, and his attempts at finding me a husband was amusing.
“Thank you.”
I walked away from the page, and to the stables, while reading the letter.

“Dearest Rua,
Hello my dear. I know that I planned to arrive at the palace today, but other business has deterred me here, and I must ride to one of the northern borders. If all goes well, then I shall be back within the week. I hope to see you soon, and plan to talk to you upon my return.
Love,
Father”

I folded up the letter, and stuffed it into my pocket. I stepped out to the steps leading down to the front of the castle. Invigorated by the prospect of riding, I flew down the steps, knocking into a young man, causing his bundles to go flying.
“Oh god, I’m so sorry sir!” I raced among the steps to pick up the little packages that had fallen. The young man knelt down near me and began to pick up the little bundles as well. Intrigued, I sneaked a quick glance at him, and the boy’s face seemed passive, not even a little bit annoyed. As if pulled by my gaze, he glanced up and met my eyes. I felt my face redden, and quickly looked down. His eyes were beautiful, the gray of a roiling storm. His head jerked back, and I picked up the last package, keeping my head down.
I shoved over the bundles I had collected and murmured another apology.
I ran down the steps as fast as I could, nearly tripping again.
Safely in the stables, I sat down to catch my breath, and after berating my stupidity in front of him, I walked over to my stallion’s stall, and began to groom him to calm my nerves.
“Good morning Tomas. We’re going to go out fo a nice, long, invigorating ride today.”
I patted his muzzle, and watched his muscles quiver in delight as the comb brushed through his coat.
I soon came out of the stables, riding on a happy horse, I led him through the back gardens, and through a small grove, where I could sneak out into the meadow beyond the palace walls. As we entered the meadow, I could feel Tomas lighten up and he began to get frisky. The meadow was beautiful, as it always is in the summer. It was full of wildflowers and sweet grass, and stretched out for miles and miles. I clicked Tomas into a gallop and ran. I watched as wildflowers flew up into the air, and petals came down like rain. We rode near the boundary of The Forest, but never entered. It was said to be haunted, and I wasn’t in the mood for spiritual company.
Soon, Tomas’ galloping gait, slowed to a trot, and I slipped of him. I lay in the sweet smelling grass, gazing at a cloud-spattered sky and enjoying the sun’s warmth. I stayed there for who knows how long, and stirred only when Tomas began to show impatience. I sat up reluctantly and we walked slowly back to the stables. I filled his manger high with oats, and his water trough filled to the brim. While he ate, I petted his mane, and my thoughts wandered. The dreams of him were coming back, this time more frequently. I tapped his nose, where the mush of water and oats didn’t reach, and walked towards the back entrance of the castle’s inner courtyard....and that's all you get. =]

I'm still working on it...mhm.
