Here's more of the story I was posting earlier, if you're interested...
“What were you talking about?” Shadow asked Damian when they had left the small town. Damian had practically walked backwards the whole way to make sure the two they had met had not followed. His red eyes scanned the forest about them quickly before he answered.
“To whom, Little One? I don’t recall speaking to anyone but you.” He was lying through his teeth, which he hated to do to her, but it was for her own good.
“You spoke to the man with white hair,” she pointed out, innocently mistaking his lie for short term memory loss. “Don’t you remember him?”
Damian froze in the middle of the path. “You could see him?” Shadow stopped with him and nodded. “How…?”
His charge tilted her head and blinked at him. “Huh? I just looked at him, Dami. That’s all. Was I not supposed to?” The little one’s face became worried.
The raven regarded the young girl momentarily. She should only be able to see him, not other bird spirits. He had heard of few possessing the ability to see all of a species of spirits, like ravens or cardinals, but never an entire kingdom.
The dark one chose his words carefully. “I have never known anyone to see more than one of us,” he watched her blank face to make sure she wouldn’t be alarmed. If she was, she didn’t outwardly show it. “It is a gift, I would think.”
Shadow grinned like an idiot at the scant praise. Rarely ever did she here things like this from him. He was always so awkward when it came to affectionate… anything really. She gently patted his shoulder and resumed walking.
The happy had shot completely over Damian’s head… He regarded his friend for a moment before shrugging and following her.
Together the two made their way from the town.
