The Boss, Snake's Mentor, was assigned by the CIA to recover the Philosophers Legacy. To do this she was willing to be labeled a "traitor" by her own people in order to protect and serve her country. Snake was assigned to kill her, but not being able to do it, The Boss forces him to destroy her.
