Powerful beyond imagining, the Phoenix's influence soon proved to be more than Jean could control. Giving in to her darker impulses, Jean became the Dark Phoenix, destroyer of worlds. At a pivotal moment, Jean regained control of herself just soon enough to give up her own life for the sake of the universe.
