Description:
#2 in my "America's History in Photographs" Series.
Victorian Silhouette 1860
1860 was the beginning of the Victorian era. Dresses with bustles began at this time. To get the full effect in the back, a cage was often used. By 1867 the style became softer, and no longer needed the cage to create a bustle.
Lace gloves, fans, and hats or bonnets were worn.
My avatar was not made to be exactly as the reference photo. The reference is just an example.

The rest of my description:
Those being photographed in the 1800's did not smile. Mostly the thought was, it looked more elegant not to smile for a photo. They were often photographed with some sort of furniture used as props. If they were sitting, either Early American or Victorian style chairs, chaises, or sofas were used. If they were standing, there was a piece of furniture, such as a small table, used as a prop. Drapes were often used as backgrounds. - Report As Spam
