They don't improve his life in anyway, they are a simple act of human emotion that he will never understand with his bleak, bleak mind. The days undulate onwards as his bleak life continues to take and never give.

You say bleak WAY too much. Try a different word ever on in a while.
Even with the description, I'm not a big fan of the flowers, or the faded black tattoos. And the brownish-black mood bubble doesn't match very well.
