• A STORM OF DUST

    The night was black night,

The stars could not pierce the dust.

Window lights could not spread beyond their yards.

    The dust came in thinly.

It could not be seen in the air.

    It settled like pollen.

Little lines of dust lay at the door sills.

    The dust-filled air muffled sound.

    The roosters crowed,

    And their voices were muffled.

In the morning, the dust hung like fog.

The sun was as red as ripe new blood.

An even blanket covered the earth.
