I am the soft rain pattering against a window.
I let my mind wander; delving into concepts I could never explain.
I like to do that sometimes—
Frighten myself silly with thoughts of the beginning of time
—Is there a beginning? —
And the start of the universe.
I like to converse deeply with my friends,
Whip out my extensive vocabulary and try to shimmy through
With my fresh thoughts.
I am the soft rain pattering against a window.
I pretend to be far, far away.
I can’t love the place where I live,
It’s difficult with the current situation I’m in.
I refuse to love it.
I pretend I have parents, who understand me,
Would never raise their voice beyond a deep, calm, soothing tone.
I feel the cold window beneath my fingers,
My calm, warm breath fogging up the glass.
I touch the freezing pane, leaving smudges.
This window is synonymous with my life.
I am the soft rain pattering against a window.
I glance up at the gloomy clouds,
Which pull back,
Like a small child’s smile
To reveal the light,
The light of a child’s face,
The hope conveyed.
The sun presses against the window,
Enveloping my skin,
Taking me with it,
Its smile raining down on me,
Changing my mood.
It’s funny how the sun can do that—
You hope, you dream, you think, you wander.
And as fast as it comes, it’s gone.
the soothing rays replaced with the
pattering of the soft rain on the window.
I am the soft rain pattering against a window.
