• What is a poem?
    Is it alive?
Does it talk and live and thrive?

    Is it a feeling?
    Or perhaps emotion?
    A written word,
    To evoke a notion?

    Should I feed it?
    Does it breathe?
    Should I hide,
    And hope it leaves?

    Is it thinking,
    Always hoping?
    Will it heal,
    Help with coping
    Of the fear
    Of being left,
    Unspoken?

    Is it serious?
    Is it a joke?
    Should I wash it?
    Or let it soak?

    Can it comfort?
    Hold your hand,
    Give its love,
    Unto no end?

    Does it rot,
    And die away?
    Does it give birth,
    To a brand new day?
Will it pack up all its things?
    And travel far away?

    I say yes.
    A poem's just that.
    It's a living thing,
    As a matter of fact.

You can take it to a party,
You can give it to a friend.
Let the words do the talking.
Let the words start to mend.

You can write it down on paper,
    Commit it to your head.
Just make sure that it gets spoken,
    For what's a poem, left un-said?
