The sound of footsteps echoes through the trees
And 'twixt the pines a man is dashing swift
The deer have fled, the birds have taken wing
And in the sky, the stars begin to shift
The forest old has long been in sweet rest
But now awakes to witness bare today
Of battle 'tween to men of East and West
Their battlefield, the mountain's peak, awaits
From the west comes elfin, pale-faced man
The one who dasheth through the silent wood
A dark-skinned warrior rides from Eastern land
His curved sword all stained with white man's blood
Two men are of only the sword compact
They are as sep'rate as the earth and sea
But here on mountain high, difference they lack
Both swordsmen, here to die have come to be
They face each other 'cross the mountaintop
Their glinting steel reflects the rising sun
They charge, and very soon their battle stops
And for the man who fell the war is won
For he who died has passed on to the world
Of heroes, gods, and warriors so brave:
Valhalla, hall of legend, shines as pearl
These heroes carry vict'ry to the grave

Description:
This one I also wrote for creative writing class.
It's a tribute to the viking and samurai cultures, two peoples who live by the sword. I admire sword culture so much because in those cultures, hard work was valued and people were forced to work in order to provide for themselves and so they valued what they had more. In modern American culture, people take so much for granted and the old ways have all been forgotten. So in this narrative I pay homage to them. - Date: 01/02/2009
