Sorrow,
Black and hopeless,
Crushing without mercy.
The experience that binds all,

- An enjoyable cinquain. To my knowledge, it follows the rules, and therefore flows nicely. I appreciated your irony in stating that despair is the binding experience of humans; it's inspirational yet hopeless. Well done.

- This doesn't QUITE follow the precise rules of a cinquain, but they're more guidelines, really. I've never been good at shorter poetry in any case, and I applaud you for fitting it in so neatly. Very succinct.

- You do a great job of conveying the emotion in such a short bit of writing, but I feel like you're telling more than showing. It's almost a definition of sorrow, but I feel like it would be a lot more effective if you wrote about something sad and let the readers ferret out the emotion of the piece for themselves. As it is it works well on it's own despite it's short length, but it sounds and feels a lot like many other poems on the subject...
