• Have you ever asked yourself, "What is a friend?" I found myself wondering about the same thing so many times before. So I have decided to share you my point of view on what friendships between people are based on my own experiences and those of other people.

You encounter a lot of people as time goes on. Some become your friends, enemies, acquaintances or remain just plain strangers. There will always be a time when you befriend a certain person whom you think you can relate to so much with. But, how can you be sure that you have chosen the right one? Simple. Friends will never leave you behind, especially in your time of need. A true friend never turns his back on you and will accept you for who you are. And a true friend will always have time for you, despite his/her hectic schedule. So, does your friend have these qualities?

Oh yeah, maybe you're wondering about my title. And you're probably saying "What's a pile of rocks and a jewel got to do with friends, anyway?" Let's say you are just walking by then you find a pile of rocks sitting on the roadside. Usually you would just ignore this and be on your way, right? But without your knowledge, beneath that heavy pile of rocks, is a precious jewel just waiting to be discovered at the right moment at the right time. However, because of those rocks you don't even bother taking a peak and you end up missing that jewel. Same with friends, sometimes we ignore people whom we are not close to or maybe there is something in their physical appearance that you don't like. When that happens, we just end up losing someone whom we would have considered a friend because we don' even bother to get to know that person. But if you do get the chance to spend some time with that person, you will be surprised that one day he/she has become an important part of your life and you're going to say to yourself, "Why haven't I met you earlier?" Never ignore people you encounter in life, no matter how uninteresting they may be because you never know you might be missing out on something really good.
