Land that is free and land that is bought
Over pleasant valleys and streams many battles are fought
Dressed in grey and in green
From this hill my house is seen
As I get closer, by and by
I can hear my mother wail and cry
I walk into the house and drop my sack
My family is dressed all in black
No one has seen me come in
I wonder "what is wrong with them?"
"Mom?" I say, "Dad?" I cry
"Can't you see me standing by?"
They all get up and leave the house
Never saying a word, quiet as a mouse
"Who has died?" I yell and curse
In front of them is a long black hearse
Then a priest says, "In rememberance of Jack
Who has given his life in Iraq."
A body, on the hill it lies
I guess it is me who has died
I'm finally home, there are no more tears
Now it is time for this ghost to disappear.
