The Road that Leads Through Memories
Walking down this lonely street,
The dust churning against my feet.
I walk down this empty path,
Facing the silent, desolate wrath.
Walking down the avenue of memories,
Images flashing, of my own violent cries.
The shadows leap against my soul,
my heart, no longer whole.
The pieces fall behind me as I walk,
And trailing me, they do stalk,
As remininces of past time,
How the voices do chime.
The insistent pounding in my head,
The reminders of fate and how it bled.
Of what could have, should have been,
Repitition, of a treacherous sin.
I sit down on the street side,
With nowhere to run, nowhere to hide,
Dreams come forth to haunt,
By night, the nightmares forever taunt.
Looking up into the sky,
Just trying desperatly to get by,
On this road that forever continues,
Tainted by dark and painful hues.

Description:
The correct and formal title is "The Road That Leads Through Memories", but I had to revise it, because it was too many letters.
This was inspired by the song, Boulevard of Broken Dreams by Greenday. I long had this image imprinted in my mind, so I decided to write it out. This is one of the few poems I wrote that actually rhyme, and I think it turned out pretty decent. Comments appreciated.

- Interesting. I like it a lot, but I felt that the rhyming scheme may have restricted you a bit. Try it in free verse and see how that comes out. If you said it was one of the few rhyming poems, I'm going to assume you usually write free verse and your intent might come out a little better in a free-verse poem.

Note: in the second stanza, the first set don't rhyme completely. I used a slant rhyme there (I think that's what it's called...) because it was hard coming up with a word rhyming with memories
