• Man wanted a boy,
    Someone strong,
A kid who needed no toy,
Just work for his father all day long.

    Man got a daughter,
    Someone weak,
A kid who was inadequate for her father,
But still his love she did seek.

    Girl gave it her all,
    Did all she could,
But this was not catching a ball,
Rather, she wrote and got A’s, as it would.

    Daddy didn’t take notice,
    Of his child’s attempts,
    For though she did callus,
She could never build an entire fence.

    Man wanted a boy,
    Someone strong,
A kid who needed no toy,
Just work for his father all day long.

    Man got a daughter,
And so did this girl weep,
    Receiving nothing from her father,
No love of his could she keep.

    Girl lost it all,
    Did all she could,
Wrote no more and let everything fall,
But still he did not see, as he should.

    Man got a daughter,
But in her he saw nothing,
And to her this did bother,
    Until she too saw nothing.
