Burning November

Remember that lonely Saturday night? I cried.
Remember that lonely grieving ache inside?
You left a son,
That won't remember having a father
You left a girl,
That won't remember being your daughter.

For a year, I wore your name over my heart
When they asked why, I didn't know where to start.
But now I can say
That you had a reason
And now I know
Freedom's a burning season

Lonely soldier, we miss you, come back home.
Smiling soldier, you didn't have to go,
But some things are worth more than price or pride
A lesson we learn, the day our loved ones die.
As days go by, the love will surely grow

Totally unexppected but I loved it! It was very touching and it flowed nicely, like a song of life. ^^ Well done and keep on going.

Oh... that's so sad! I almost feel like crying now! It sounds more like a song than a poem. But that's almost the same thing, isn't it? The rhymes flow very well. None of the phrases sound forced although the word choices are simple. I really like it. Five stars for a really touching poem!
