December:
The last time there was this much wind
It blew the wrestling mats we’d used as sleds
Over and around and on top of each other
Into the fence around the tennis courts.
I didn’t know, but she left early for school
To pull them back up the hill, last time
And under a leafless tree.
Slipping, probably, in the snow
Because she’s always been a little clumsy.
But maybe, she just climbs up more icy hills
Then most people do.
March:
I fell asleep when we were supposed to be
Looking at the stars and talking about philosophy
Because it was just so warm and safe
Being part of our three-dimensional puzzle
It rained today and the sky was overlapping
shades of gray, as if the world was saying goodbye
but at least it’s raining.
