• There are nights,
When I look to the stars,
And imagine how glorious it would be
If I saw myself among the constellations that inhabit the heavens.
Oh, how truly glorious it would be!
Mere human beings would speak my name for eternity,
    Naming the countless deeds
That granted me a place in the night sky.
    I would never be forgotten,
    I would be somebody,
    No longer nothing, non-existent,
    I would finally have identity.

    There are days,
When I look to the horizon,
And I see and hear of people scattered throughout the planet
    Doing something that truly matters.
They are selfless, all they want
Is to make our world a better place.
    I, however, am selfish,
I only want to be recognized by the eyes of the world.

Hubris is my other middle name.

Every chance I get to prove myself,
    I excel past all expectations.
They judge me on my clothes,
But I show them all what I really am.
    If anyone threatens my ability,
    I only try harder.
    Most times I succeed,
But there are times I fail.
    They laugh at me,
    They joke to me,
    Though I doubt they realize
That deep down, they are killing me.
    But I stand tall,
    Pretend to shrug it off.
I soon learned to accept these
Occasional bruises that dot my pride,
Healing myself with a magic potion called
    Determination, anger,
    Stubborness, strength,
    And I regain my composure.

One day I will show them all.

Show them I am the better one.
They will no longer call me
    Stupid, idiot, dumbass,
These words will stop infecting my mind.
Giving birth to a virus that creeps in my ear,
    First whispering, then screaming:
"No I'm not, no I'm not,
    NO I'M NOT!"

I can't help but think like this,
It's hardwired into me, I've known this for a while now.
Not even my friends are spared from my hubris thoughts.
    It sickens me.
It kills me to know that
I have had no identity for so long
I wish to take away the I.D.s of others' abilities,
    And invalidate them.
    So one day,
They will know what I was,
A nobody, nothing, always having another person
Stealing my rightful light with a smirk on his or her face.

They will know how it feels to have an invalid I.D.
