Silence fills the air,
Where did children’s laughter go?
Now trails of pain streaks
Once rosy cheeks.
Fraying rope of child’s prized tire-swing severed,
Placed on a ’97 pick-up,
Corroded by the mile.
Heavy shutters close,
Brilliant flowers wilt.
Old possessions sold,
To make it through
Another day.
Tonight we sleep under the stars,
Could you be our guiding light?
