• Flashback.

Into the past when you first started school,
happy as the child you were.

Kids around you from different places and adults of different faces,
scared and unsure as the child you were.

The boy who stole your crayons and lunch and pushed you in the mud,
confused and crying as the child you were.

Home you went to cry and seek comfort,
wanting and needing as the child you were.

    Flashback.

You find yourself at the locker and in new surroundings,
nervous and excited as the child you were.

    Glaring teachers and unwelcoming peers,
puzzled and curious as the child you were.

Beaten and left to coil in the fetal position in the hall,
pained and frightened as the child you were.

Home you went to stare at the ceiling,
yarning and closing as the child you were.

    Flashback.

Locker once more with similar training in new areas,
placid and wondering as the child you were.

Teachers unwilling to deal with you and no friends in sight,
not caring and edged as the child you were.

Left crumpled on the ground battered and bruised,
angry and annoyed as the child you were.

To home you went to lay dormant and wait,
lost and scared as the child you were.

    Flashback.

The busy streets and cold air,
mind set and strengthened as the child you were.

Drugs in the pocket and the blood,
closed from the world and no other path as the child you were.

The gun in your hand and the clerk slumped over,
raged and rabid as the child you were.

Ran you did from the law to no home but a cell,
cooling and questioning as the child you were.

    Reality.

    Strapped in and bound,
afraid and lamenting as the child you were.

Look up to your reflection in the glass and see yourself,
not as a hardened criminal, but as the child you were.

The lever is switched and the electrical charge is released,
die for your crimes as the child you were.
