I’ll leave you to guard the photos
Under your ardent gaze.
Watch the motionless
Dance. While I move along.
My part in this is not over.
The memories are all perfect in their
ballerina stasis. Trapped in their
Cage of silver gelatin and gold chloride
I'm not eaten through just yet
Even if I don’t shimmer with
A photographic luster.
The pictures might be of me
Still I will never be the same.
The acid bubbles and those
Silver dancers on the negative
Are bound to miss a cue.
I hope you are not surprised
By life’s motion. Once you
Take your eyes off that
Perfect pose.
