• Snow like velvet daintily masks the ground,
    And the whistling winds send their lullabies sweet.
    Jack Frost paints the windows making no sound;
    And at dawn his work will be complete.
    With these signs we know that winter has come;
    As the snowflakes dance where the green grass once grew;
    And with holes in your socks your toes shall numb;
    And Autumn has said to the earth adieu.
    The icy crystals make music so dear;
    That carries with it a quaint little tune.
    These divine notes will make you shed a tear;
    And its beautiful chimes end far to soon:
    And though winter comes like a passing train;
    The marvels it brought will always remain.
