there she is
with her unruly black hair tied back in a ponytail
dressed in fabric of a washcloth
poised innocently, her feet bare
wounded and defiled
but whats truly unhygienic
is her lifestyle that's considered
normal for a child, its completely vile
with a single mother who is terminally ill
at nine years old, Little Parody
and her sister work to the bone
to earn some money to keep the household uphold
at nine years old, she possess the hands
of an aging construction worker
cogitation takes me back, to when I was nine years old
all that was expected of me was to come home before it got cold!
Little Parody, you hold such a tremendous burden
of that most likely not even a grown man could
every sunrise, you awaken
your diminutive hands are assigned
to carry four bricks each, and load them onto the truck
every sunrise, you awaken to the same routine
and I have the audacity to say my life is insipid!
Little Parody, you've been robbed of your adolescence
you've never gotten the chance to experience
childhood
Little Parody, I beg for forgiveness
all those times, you were on the television
and I changed the channel, but now
I see, I envision
all you have to endure
I feel, I acknowledge
your hardships
Little Parody, I pray for you
please don't lose your grip
don't lose your hold on hope
one day I know, you will be stripped of this nightmare
be patient, give it some time
when it comes, reach for that hand
skies will no longer be gray, you will soon witness the rays..
