The House on Immaculate Street
A man stares into the eyes that reflect in the mirror
walls cemented together with pain and despair glare back
the color of grief is smeared into every little crevice
the sound of freedom cries out from inside these dreadful walls
but he cannot and will attempt to demolish these walls;
and he mustn’t try for the dam of emotions will overflow
Contentment is chiseled into the house made of stone
shingles cover the roof that sits on the house of strength
the foundation of transformation sits on the land of success
tourists flock to this house like seagulls to the dump
only to view and admire the renovation that has come with time
and to forget the sorrowful land that they are striding across
The man conveys the anecdote of this transformation
voices the same portrayal as if it is etched into the back of his hand
next to each tourist is the same question the last person inquired
and behind this question is the answer identical to that of the last
but the guide gives this answer as if it were an everyday routine
but in the hindmost part of his mind he knows it is just an immense lie
As this man continues to stare into the blank view of his eyes
the thought of tourists finding out the truth crosses his mind
but then again the question is always comes down the same path
are they concerned about the structure of this mended house
or are they pleased that it is no longer a blemish to the neighborhood
