Once Again
I remember the first time you whispered my name,
and when I pressed my lips to you, you said "only once",
but there's a clever trick I prepared for your
heart. That sound comes around again
and while you worry about who may hear
it doesn't bother I
I remember the way in which I
first thought about you tinted with the color of your name
it shouted in my brain so loudly I thought you might hear
but as it always ends up, once
you turn your head towards me again
some voice inside of me stutters, knowing, "You're..."
"You're...
someone who's name I
will want to feel. again. and again"
your picture is pinned to my brain like a name
tag. I try to smother my lit fuse auditory nerves but once
you speak, I realize how far those thoughts are from here
and when I hear
the way you wrap your lips around your
syllables, all at once,
I'm memorized by the swing of your pendulum I
forget everything but your name.
I'm an astronaut burning against this atmosphere that is yours
It seems like the sky, again,
is going to turn pink, and bloody up the sunset. I can hear
it gorging on daylight. Its become a memory stamped with your name
like the moment in our every goodbye when I can look into your
hand-carved eyes
again, but only once.
Once
Again
I
Hear
Your
Name
- Title: Once again
- Artist: Vannak
- Description: This is a poem titled, Once again. It's a sestina, which means that there are 6 stanzas of 6 lines each. In each stanza, the last word in each line is a reordering of the previous stanza's. This is one of my favorite forms so enjoy.
