Chapter Four of Our Days As Friends
Chapter Four
Reunited

I stepped off the bus and looked ahead. I saw Jane waiting for me by the school doors.
“Liz! Great news! You and I are in the same class! Isn’t that sooo cool?”
“Oh, yeah! High five sis!” Jane and I talked a moment, then headed to class. “Wait, what class are we in? I know we’re in E Corridor, but what room number?” I asked.
“E-10.” Jane responded.
When we finally reached E-10, I was shocked. I knew all but two kids in my new class!
“Hey Liz.”
The voice startled me. I’m not sure why, but I told myself it was Chris Lowe. But when I turned around, It was Evan saying hello.
“Why don’t you tap my shoulder before you give me a heart attack?” I said.
“I’m sorry. Hey, wanna sit at the same table?” Evan asked.
“You’re in our class too? O.K. This is what I call cool! Three friends in one class!” Jane said.
"Now we can hang out at reccess!" Evan yelled
“So, how was summer Ev? Jane told me on the way to class.” I asked.
“Good, but I missed you guys. I don’t know, but I think you guys . . . ”
“GIRLS!!!” Jane and I shouted in unison. “We’re not guys!”
“Girls, ok? I think you GIRLS feel the same way.”Evan finishes.
“Class, take a seat and prepare for your first day of fifth grade.” Mrs.Chandler said. “There are one hundred seventy-nine days left until all of you should be in sixth grade. Now, this is your schedule for every Tuesday.”
Later on we went to recess. We play by a large rock near the gate. “This morning, that song was runnin’ through my head, that one that goes ‘Reunited and it feels so good’. You know wha I’m saying?”
“I know! That was running through my head too!” Jane said.
“No way! High five!” I said.
“Hey, don’t I get a high five?” Evan said, a little annoyed.
“Of corse, High five, Ev!” Jane shouted.
The recess whistle blew and we lined up for math. “That recess was awesome!” I exclaimed. “We gotta’ hang by the rock every day.”
“That recess seemed short to me. Recess always seems short on the first day of school.” Jane complained. “I don’t want to do math now!”
“Neither do I, but I’m not complainin’. I’m just OK with math time.” I said to calm Jane.
“I’m still bad at math Liz, and until I’m good at math, I won’t like it!” Jane responded. “ Mathematics are my weak spots, and I would think my best friend would know me better.”
“I know you’re bad at math, and I respect that, but I think you should give math a chance Jane.” I said reassuringly. I hoped that my words had helped her. Who knew how good she could be, or what she could accomplish?
