“THE OGRE CHILD”

FADE IN:
EXT. FOREST - AFTERNOON
A group of OGRES dances around a fire. A HUMAN GIRL is among them, and they all sing an incomprehensible song. Several armored MEN appear as they advance toward the group.
MAN #1
That’s her. Now, grab her and kill as many of those hideous beasts as you can.
REST OF GROUP
Yes, sir!
The FIRST MAN grabs the GIRL, while the others begin to fight the OGRES.
MOTHER OGRE
(to the GIRL)
HARRIS!
The OGRE is then knocked to the ground.
MAN #1
So, that’s what they call you, eh, sweetie? My name is Master John, and that is what you will call me or you will face the consequences I see fit. As for you, well, your name is now Sarah
HARRIS
(on the verge of tears)
My name, is HARRIS.
MASTER JOHN
(while covering her mouth)
Hmm, independence. We’ll have to get you out of that habit.
HARRIS loses consciousness.
FADE OUT
FADE IN:
INT. SPECIAL CHILDREN LIVING QUARTERS – TIME UNKNOWN
HARRIS
(while regaining consccious
Wh-Where am I?
GIRL
You’re where the Masters want you.
HARRIS jumps at the new voice. A GIRL with oddly colored skin sits against the wall across from her.
HARRIS
Who, may I ask, are you?!? And who are these Masters of which you speak?
GIRL
My name is Aicila. I’m a mermaid-raised human the Masters captured a long time ago…
HARRIS
But who, if I may ask, are they?
AICILA
They’re the beings who are going to take over the world, using people like you and me.
HARRIS, in disbelief, speaks in the language special to the ogres.
AICILA
Oh, so you’re an ogre child?
HARRIS
Why, yes, actually. How can you tell?
AICILA
We are all humans raised by other species. That’s why the Masters want us. I only knew that you were ogre-raised by the language you spoke. It’s somewhat familiar to me.
HARRIS
Ahh, I see. But, what do you mean by ‘we’? There are more than just the two of us?
BOY
Well, of course. What, did you think that you and Aicila over there were the only special people in this whole world?
HARRIS finally notices all of the other people in the room, including the sparkling BOY standing nearby.
HARRIS
Well, no, but-what species were you raised by, if I may ask?
BOY
(While blushing)
No, you may not ask-
GIRL
Kire was raised by faeries. That’s why he sparkles.
KIRE
How dare you tell her about me, Eitak! I thought I could trust you!
EITAK
(while giggling)
You’re funny when you’re angry.
KIRE slumps against the wall next to Harris.
KIRE
(talking to himself)
I swear those gnomes never taught her any manners.
While sighing, KIRE focuses his attention on HARRIS as EITAK and AICILA converse amongst the others in the room.
KIRE
Now, I don’t usually do this but, since you’re new and all, and you seem pretty likable, I’ll tell you the basics of what happens here. The only time you leave this room is when the Masters need you. We eat in here and, at night, magic widens the room and beds appear, so we sleep in here to.
HARRIS sits quietly and listens intently.
KIRE
The Masters are strict, and they won’t hesitate to harm you. So, just listen to what they say and follow orders. Do that, and you’ll be fine. Be kind and polite, even when they don’t even come close to deserving it. They’ll make your life a living hell if you don’t. The one thing that all the new people forget to do is to call everyone by the names the Masters have given us. You really only have to do this when you are in their presence. The punishment for using our real names is the most severe. They gave you a new name, right?
HARRIS
Sarah.
KIRE
Okay, good. Now, I’m only going to list everyone’s name once, so listen well. When around the Masters, you will call me Erik. Aicila is Alicia, and Eitak is Katie. Understood?
HARRIS nods.
KIRE
And we will call you Sarah. Just, don’t forget your true name. If you lose it, your sanity will soon follow.
KIRE stands up.
KIRE
Now, I’m not usually this nice of a person, so don’t get used to it. It’ll only give you false hope.
KIRE walks away as a loud hissing sound fills the room. The walls move far away from each other, and six large beds appeared. AICILA waves to HARRIS after getting into one of the beds.
AICILA
HARRIS! There aren’t enough beds for everyone to have their own, so we partner up. Wanna sleep with me tonight?
HARRIS gets into bed with AICILA as KIRE stands in the middle of the room.
KIRE
Oh, great. The only empty space is with Anhsirk. Won’t this be a fun night.
ANHSIRK
You’re no teddy bear either, Kire.
HARRIS falls asleep.
