Akairo sent out a red messenger falcon back to his home village requesting aid in rebuilding the village through a letter tied to one of the falcons feet. Near sundown the falcon returned caring a message addressed to Akairo…It read “Boss, We will leave at sunrise and be there before sunset…We will begin the repairs the next morning and work until dust. We will stay as long as it takes to complete the repairs… Signed Enari of Red Sun”… “Help is on the way…they should be arriving before nightfall tomorrow.” Akairo said to the townspeople who gathered around him to hear what the letter was about. I was relieved Akairo’s clan was willing to help out…I felt I was asking so much of Akairo and never giving anything in return though. “Thank you kind sir, I don’t know who to repay you…” The mayor of the town said shaking Akairo’s hand. “I think I have a way you can, but we will discuss that later once all the repairs are complete.” Akairo replied placing his hand on the mayor’s shoulder for a moment as if to calm him down. Akairo told everyone to relax until his clan came by, so everyone went home, and Akairo came up to me and said “Rayne are you okay to stay here or do you want to rent a room somewhere?” …After a brief pause I said “I’m fine Akairo…I have you to scare away my nightmares.” Then I took his hand in mine as we walked back into the house. My old bed was much too small for me to sleep in so there was no way I could ask Akairo to…I couldn’t sleep alone in the living room either because I was afraid my memories would come back. Akairo and I decided to sleep in my parents old room and Akairo promised to protect me even from ghosts… I had no doubts about his words and fell asleep in no time.

The next morning I must of woke up late because the sun was already and Akairo wasn’t laying beside me anymore. I found Akairo in the kitchen putting some food items in the fridge…”I was surprised it still works, but it seems the water and electricity was never turned off so I got us some stuff since we are going to be here a while…” Akairo said handing me a box of cereal. “You didn’t spend all of your money on this did you Akairo?” I said offering to pay for half…”Naa…most of it the villagers gave me as thanks for helping them out…I guess it’s like a thank you in advance.” He said making me feel a bit better about it.

After breakfast Akairo and I decided to take a walk and survey the area to get and ideas of what needed to be done. Akairo made some notes as we went along…writing urgent things in red and not so critical things in black. By the time we were done we had a good sized stack of notes and the sun was at its highest point in the sky. Akairo and I decided to eat some lunch before holding another meeting to discuss our findings and suggestions to the townspeople. The meeting lasted for several hours and Akairo met with everyone and discussed his notes with them and asked them if there was anything else they wanted done that he didn’t write down already. Requests were written in blue then Akairo said “I will give my notes to the people in charge of repairing your properties…I’m hoping to have a 3 man team for each…” Akairo continued to discuss his plans with the townspeople then shortly after the meeting was concluded. A little before dusk Akairo’s gang members arrived on horseback with horse drawn carts filled with wood, tools and other supplies. Akairo then split everyone into 3 man teams and assigned the teams a certain house to work on. The teams then went to the house and introduced themselves to the property owners and discussed the notes in greater detail for the final time just to verify everything was correct. The teams spent the night with the families, whose homes they were going to rebuild and repair, mostly so they had time to get to know each other and get some rest. In the morning the teams would wake with the sun and begin working.

The repair and rebuild process took several months but when it was finally completed the town looked very different… even from when I was young. It doubled maybe even tripled in size and then something amazing happened…The mayor came up to Akairo and me and asked Akairo if he and his group would like to move into the newly build vacant homes and some act as carpenters (builders), some as police, some as advisers Akairo being one of them and other positions of high respect, authority, and trust among the townspeople and the mayor himself. Akairo after much consideration agreed and over the next month or so his clan packed everything they could into horse drawn carts and made the journey over here. Once everyone had made the transition over Akairo and I held a town gathering to make a special announcement that we had finally decided on our wedding day…The last day of August…The one year anniversary of when I first met Akairo and his gang on the mountain trail.
